We are BLESSED to say that we have been approved for the Spay and Neuter program grant again this year. We have been closed since Nov due to lack of funding. Due to the number of applications we have received during our closure we simply can not go back and contact everyone.

As always send a message and you will get an auto response with a link to the application.

Please PLEASE keep in mind we are volunteers! We work full time jobs, We all have families and some are also, ALSO attending school.

Hello followers, I know many of you have reached out to us needing assistance with spay and neuter. I wanted to take a minute here and explain to you what the hold us is in getting assistance.

We are a Non-profit group. Every single time we assist with a spay or neuter we NEVER quote anyone the full price. Which means the portion that the owners don't cover we here at AOP do. Last year we helped so many of you with the WV Spay and Neuter grant that we received that we helped beyond our budget. We therefore covered it personally.

We haven't received word yet if we were awarded another grant yet this year. While we work very hard to be a great asset to our community, we don't have outside donations coming in. Without community support and/or the grant we are out of funding to assist.

While it is disheartening to us as our only goal was to assist with spay and neuter, to have to say we can't it is crushing as we feel as though we are letting everyone down.

We thank you for your understanding and as soon as we get word on the grant or any other funding we will post here first. Please make sure you are following our page, as we simply can not go back to all the applications we have received during this closure.

As we look for the right words to say… sometimes there are none, but we still try. 💔

First thing this morning, a good samaritan rushed in a stray cat this morning that was found FROZEN solid to a fold-up chair outside. It was -1 degrees.

Although we are not a full service hospital nor an emergency clinic, our amazing team jumped into action and did everything in their power to bring him back to life. He was non-responsive but still had a heartbeat. His body temperature was so low it wouldn’t even read on the thermometer. They somehow managed to place an IV catheter, in a nearly non-exist vein, and began administering warm fluids while they worked to slowly warm the rest of his body up.

As he eventually started to thaw and become slightly aware of his surroundings, it was evident that this poor cat was in so much pain. His body was shutting down and his organs were failing. It’s possible even neurological issues were setting in due to his extreme case of hypothermia.

Despite hours of attempting life-saving measures, the heartbreaking reality is that it still wasn’t enough to save him. The damage of the cruel, bitter cold had already taken its toll. We will save you the rest of the horrific details, but it became clear that the kindest thing we could was to end his suffering by offering humane euthanasia.

Although it was not the outcome we had hoped for, we will not let this cat’s story go unheard. His life mattered. His death will not be in vain.

Let this be a lesson to all.

Stray/feral community cats may be resourceful and resilient creatures by nature, but that doesn’t mean they don’t need our help. Offer a plate of food. Fresh water. Build a make-shift shelter filled with straw (not hay or blankets). Open up your garage, barn, or storage shed for a few nights so they can escape the cold. You could literally be saving their life.

And last but not least, please, bring your own pets inside! Friends don’t let furry friends freeze to death and if you see something, DO something.
