We have shared a few of our challenges this week.
Full kennels. Emergency pleas. Dogs waiting too long. Staff and volunteers trying to make space where there simply isn’t any.
We share those moments because this work is real, and because the state of animal welfare in our community is not something one organization can fix alone. It takes all of us.
But today, we need to share this part too:
A INCREDIBLE amount of good is happening at HCHS and within our community. Thanks to you.
1. This week, 11 dogs went into foster-to-adopt homes.
2. ATTICUS WAS ADOPTED. ❤️
3. Three long-stay dogs finally got their chance.
4. Clutch went to foster.
5. Our rescue partners who stepped in when we needed help most. Central Texas SPCA welcomed FOUR of our dogs into their program!! Highland Lakes Canine Rescue took in one exhausted momma who finally gets to rest.
That is partnership. That is lifesaving. And we are so thankful.
AND IT DOESN'T STOP HERE!
6. Our MASH team completed another HUGE month with almost 300 low-cost spay and neuter surgeries.
That's 300 pets fixed, 300 families helped, 300+ less unwanted litters, and fewer animals entering an already overwhelmed shelter system.
7. Because the need is only growing, we have officially started planning the expansion of our surgical center so we can provide even more low-cost and free spay and neuter services to the people and pets who need it most.
That is the work that changes everything.
We are not just fighting for the animals already inside our building. We are fighting to stop suffering before it starts.
And somehow, this small but mighty team has figured out how to do both.
8. Our volunteer team is growing, and the dogs feel it. More walks. More play yard time. More treats. More people showing up just to remind them they matter.
So yes, we are still full.
But we are also still fighting, fixing, placing, building and showing up.
This week gave us some really big wins, and those wins belong to every person who adopted, fostered, rescued, volunteered, donated, shared, encouraged us, or simply paid attention when these animals needed help.
So today, we are celebrating the good.
And tomorrow, we keep going.
Adopt. Foster. Volunteer. Donate. Share.
Thank you to this community for proving, again and again, that these animals are not facing this alone.
