Go support this new Massachusetts based guinea pig rescue! Officially licensed by MDAR, they are an excellent resource. I am so happy for Emily and the pigs in her care. She does an AMAZING job providing plenty of space, proper nutrition, and vet care. All the rescues are so proud of you and your incredible efforts, we are so lucky to have you on our side. 😍🐹😍

Piggy Overnight Camp is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit guinea pig rescue based in Arlington, MA. We rescue neglected and abandoned guinea pigs, provide medical care and rehabilitation, and help them find safe, loving forever homes.

Hollis Primary School in Hollis, NH is a long time friend and supporter of Wheektopia. Kids collect uneaten baby carrots, guinea pigs receive boxes of unused veggies from the cafeteria, and a packet of handmade cards for the piggies arrives after learning about guinea pigs in environmental science. Now the third grade learned about guinea pigs care and created an amazing art piece for their annual art show, they wove pigs in blankets!

This evening I brought Hazel, Marigold, Nova, and Astra from the herd to represent Wheektopia and say thank you to this sweet community.

I went ahead and used the piggy camp theme for their cage and they enjoyed lounging around. Despite 200 people making their way through the art room, I was so proud of all the students and their families and their respect towards the guinea pigs. I held one of the girls in a cuddle sack, rotating through the four girls constantly to give everyone breaks. The girls accepted gentle pets, enjoyed being praised for their cuteness, and even gave out the occasional kiss.

I loved finding all the guinea pig art and facts in the school before we started and meeting all the families. There were so many children AND adults who got to touch a guinea pig for the first time. 🐹🤍

Thank you Hollis Primary, Ms. O’Brien, and Ms. Happy for your ongoing promotion of guinea pigs and their proper care. I appreciate you all!

Thanks to the adoption of Cashew and Banzo (AJ and Houdini), I was able to move two adult pairs of boys from a 2x4 to 2x6 for the first time in their lives and I moved the baby boys into their own 2x4 cages. Honey and Pebbles and Wilbur and Jet can stretch their legs while each pair of baby boys has their own 2x4 now instead of sharing a 2x6.

When you adopt guinea pigs from a rescue, you make it possible for us to support more guinea pigs and give them the best care possible. The cage sizes above are with 14 inch grids, so the 2x4 cage is actually over 10 square feet and the 2x6 cage is 16 square feet!

Will someone please explain how Baxter is still available for adoption? He just got his trim because as a Peruvian or maybe Sheba his hair keeps growing. He is a big baby who needs just the right friend or dedicated bar buddy!

The rescue community lost one of their strongest. Alanna’s passion, knowledge, and dedication to all animals and the rescue community brought many rescues together. Rest easy and I hope we can continue your work.

TRANSPORT FILLED!!

Wheektopia Wednesday!

Today I have a couple of last minute opportunities to volunteer with Wheektopia.

🐹 Transport:

Today Wheektopia is taking in this pair of adorable, bonded, senior boys. Twix is 6 years old and Snickers is 5 years old. I’m wondering if there are any Wheektopia friends who are willing to meet their owner in Portsmouth and pickup these loves this evening. She is driving 3 hours to meet me.

🐹 Community Outreach:

Today I have Piggy Camp and Read to a Guinea Pig at the Brookline, NH Public Library. I am going to bring the herd and have a few separate spaces for interaction opportunities, answer questions about caring for guinea pigs, and have a guinea pig enrichment station. It is important you’re comfortable with both guinea pigs and children for this event.

Can I make this work on my own with my daughter who is helping out at camp? Yes. Would it be even better with some more help? Also yes. Please reach out if you would like to help!

Tomorrow is the day!

Hey piggy family! Wheektopia is bursting with pigs. Yes we’ve had so many adoptions, but the pigs keep coming. Funds are tight and one of my fabulous adopters and volunteers put together a GoFundMe for Wheektopia. Right now I am trying to build my care fund (some high vet bills have drained it) and the cursed blue carpet is going away!

For years I have battled the blue carpet in the rescue space. Hay, water, dust, all the mess. Today I started to rip it out (we happen to have a large dumpster at my house due to some projects) and tomorrow I will have it all GONE. An immediate use of the GoFundMe funds will be for waterproof, easy to clean flooring. Yay!

We will also be rearranging, turning the double stacks into triple stacks, shortening the tables, and adding casters for easy cleaning. Fresh paint, easier access to supplies and just maybe, scheduled open hours?? Maybe that’s too ambitious. 😆
