Meet Indigo Jean Westcott, a 1-year-old miniature Dachshund with a big personality and a unique orthopedic challenge.
Indigo presented to CARE for bilateral hindlimb mobility issues. After performing a CT scan, Dr. Kroner discovered she had a condition called pes varus—an angular limb deformity that caused her shin bones to become severely bowed.
To create the best possible surgical plan, Dr. Kroner partnered with Vet3D, an orthopedic planning company in Europe. Using Indigo’s CT images, their team designed patient-specific cutting guides and custom implants tailored to her anatomy. This advanced technology allowed for a more precise correction, reduced surgical risk, and the ability to address both limbs during a single anesthetic event.
Cases like Indigo’s highlight how innovative imaging, advanced surgical planning, and custom implant technology are transforming veterinary medicine and improving outcomes for patients with complex orthopedic conditions.
We’re excited to share Indigo’s story and look forward to following her progress on the road to recovery.
