Meet Katie! A few months ago Katie's mom reached out to me because they were planning to camp at Black Prong and found out we have trail horses. Katie has autism and has ridden in therapeutic riding programs, but hasn't had access to a program for a few years. I worked out a plan with Katie's mom to come up with a safe, enjoyable experience for Katie to have on her vacation. Trail Horse Filly was more than happy to meet her new friend this morning! If you have a loved one who might not be able to have the typical trail ride experience, please reach out to me and we can discuss what might work for your family and friends.

This morning I met up with the Goethe Foresters and ornithologist to tag Red Cockaded Woodpeckers. This species is threatened due to habitat loss but they still have nesting populations in the Goethe. They nest in cavities in mature Longleaf pines which are a magnificent, yet endangered, species of pine native to the Southeastern United States. The baby RCWs are about 7 days old, and will be checked on again as fledglings in a few weeks. I'm very thankful to have the opportunity to help tag these amazing little birds and educate Black Prong guests on the unique Goethe communities.

A lot of times guests have questions about the beautiful surroundings while out on a ride. Part of my job is continual learning about the local plants and animals so I can be ready to answer questions about the forest- sometimes I get talking about that stuff anyways even if there are no initial questions! Learning about nature on horseback is the best way to do it in my opinion! Join us for a ride 🌴🐴🌺
