Please do not use nonstick cookware, candles, plug-ins, smoke, aerosol sprays, or essential oil diffusers around birds. Birds have extremely sensitive respiratory systems, and fumes that seem harmless to us can kill a bird in minutes.

Some of the biggest hidden dangers include:
• Teflon and nonstick pans
• Self-cleaning ovens
• Air fresheners
• Perfumes and sprays
• Cigarette smoke
• Scented candles
• Diffusers and essential oils

If you have birds, fresh air is your best friend.

The rescue world glorifies “saving them all,” but sustainable rescues survive because they are able to confidently say “We do not currently have capacity.”

That is responsible rescue work. 💚

Meet Morgan (Blue & Gold) and Mooney (Green Wing), a deeply bonded pair who recently lost their world. Their dad, who was their primary caregiver, passed away unexpectedly and their mom is battling dementia and unable to care for them. These two have spent their lives together. Morgan is quite the character with a very impressive vocabulary… heavy on the potty words while Mooney is a bit more reserved (and less vulgar… for now 😅). They were accustomed to a life with lots of freedom, spending much of their time outdoors in the backyard with severely clipped wings or relaxing in their large aviary. They have been in foster for a month, and will be ready to go to their new home within a few weeks. If you’re interested in adopting these beautiful babes to keep them together, please fill out an application or if you’re already approved, reach out to me personally via email at [email protected] 💚💚

Just because a bird is “mean” does not mean it is a bad bird. Many birds that bite, lunge, scream, or act aggressively are scared, frustrated, hormonal, or have simply never been taught how to trust people.

Birds are prey animals. They do not bite because they are “evil.” They bite because they are communicating. Patience, training, routine, and understanding body language can completely change a bird’s behavior over time.

The “difficult” birds are often the ones who need love the most.
