It’s gonna be wicked hot !!

Nearly all of Massachusetts is under a heat advisory today. In other words, it is wicked HOT!

We recommend keeping pets cool and comfortable inside, or keeping exercise to the early morning or evening, avoiding hot pavement, and keeping dogs OUT of hot cars! The inside of a car can heat up to 100° F in 10 minutes on an 80° F day – even with the windows slightly open. Animals may suffer and can die quickly when left in a hot car. A car will heat up rapidly and an animal is unable to cool himself or herself down. Pets can suffer needlessly and could die when left in a car even on a moderately hot day.

Luckily, we worked together to pass a law in MA to help prevent pets from dying in hot cars. The law is very specific on what the risk needs to be to the dog and what you need to do before you remove a dog, which should only be as a last resort. It is always safer to leave your pet at home, and your dog will be more comfortable!

Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS) is a condition affecting brachycephalic (short-nosed) dog breeds like Bulldogs, Pugs, and French Bulldogs. BOAS is characterized by a range of anatomical abnormalities including stenotic nares (narrowed nostrils), elongated soft palate, hypoplastic trachea, and everted laryngeal saccules, which lead to airway obstruction and significant respiratory distress .

The Lyme vaccine is recommended for all dogs living in or traveling to areas where Lyme disease is common.

The Lyme vaccine together with year-round parasite preventives is the best possible protection against Lyme disease. If you live in an area where Lyme disease is rare, regular parasite preventives are plenty to protect your pet.
