Today our special friend Re*****on came to see us! Remi is a Treeing Walker Coonhound who loves to hike, paddleboard and even take a ride on the boat. Sheโ€™s going blind but that doesn't slow her down. Her mom Kelly got her some very cool goggles to help with the glare. Re*****on is so amazing as she is one of our oldest canines who comes to visit here at the clinic. She will be turning 18 years old on August 8! Happy upcoming Birthday Re*****on from all of us here at Riversong!

It's Veterinary Receptionist Week! Many of you have been wondering what ever happened to our famous receptionist Rosie (aka Stinky) - We are so happy our girl went to her forever home. We loved having her in the clinic, but our Rosie is living her best life. She has an Italian Greyhound best friend, a cat buddy and best of all a family who loves her very much. These days she can be found lounging in her catio or on her favorite cat tree. Thanks for all the hard reception work Rosie, and enjoy your retirement!

Did you know that April 23-29 is National Scoop the P**p week?? This is a week that spotlights the importance of waste disposal for pet owners. Here are three great reasons why you should always clean up after your furry friend:

1. NOT a Fertilizer - believe it or not dog poo actually is not a natural fertilizer! It is generally highly acidic and can be toxic for plants. It can kill grasses if left lying around. Dog poo is definitely not good for growing vegetables or fruit as it can add bacteria to your food.

2. Exposure - dog f***s left in public spaces can expose other animals AND humans to harmful bacteria and parasites. Several can lead to illness and disease, including:

Parvovirus, Leptospirosis, Giardia, E-coli, Salmonella, Roundworms

3. It STINKS! Leaving your pet's "business" behind can make a whole area look and smell disgusting.

Remember cleaning up after your pet is your responsibility, but keeping public spaces and walkways free and clean is up to all of us. Happy Scoop the P**p week!

Welcome Dr. Couch! Dr. Kimberly Couch was born and raised on the Southwest Florida coast and has wanted to be a veterinarian since she was in kindergarten. She has worked in the veterinary industry since she was 16 years old, starting as a kennel technician and working her way towards becoming a veterinarian. She received her undergraduate degrees in Biology and Chemistry with a minor in Business Administration at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, FL in 2016. She then received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL in 2020. Go Gators!

Even before veterinary school, she was interested in natural remedies. She received her certification in veterinary acupuncture at Chi University and is working on her certificates in veterinary herbal medicine and veterinary rehabilitation (physical therapy). She has passion for integrating eastern medicine and western medicine together to provide the most comprehensive, holistic, treatment plans for her patients. She is also fear free certified and believes strongly in making veterinary visits more positive experiences for both pets and their owners.

Dr. Couch is happy to have called Asheville home for the last 4 years. In her free time, she loves spending time outdoors with her husband (Chad) and golden retriever (Franklin) reading at home with her two cats (Gypsy and Pebbles), practicing yoga, and tending to her plants and garden.

We are so excited to have Dr. Crouch join the Riversong Team!
