❄️🐾 Winter Storm = Training Opportunity 🐾❄️
The snow is finally clearing, sidewalks are being shoveled, plows are rolling by, neighbors are outside cleaning up… and guess what? That’s REAL LIFE distraction training.
At Canine Curiosity, we talk a lot about how winter can make reactivity feel harder. Shorter days, fewer walks, less exposure — it’s easy for skills to get a little rusty. But moments like post-storm clean up? They’re gold.
Here’s how to use it safely:
✔️ Keep distance from heavy equipment and loud plows
✔️ Advocate for your dog’s space
✔️ Work under threshold (calm > close)
✔️ Reward check-ins and engagement
✔️ Keep sessions short and successful
Snow piles, noisy trucks, bundled-up neighbors, slippery footing — these are controlled, real-world distractions that help build resilience when approached thoughtfully.
Winter doesn’t have to mean regression. It can mean intentional reps.
If you’ve been struggling with reactivity this season, let’s turn these everyday moments into confidence-building wins. 🐕✨
