We have been helping homeless animals along the Connecticut shoreline and vicinity since April 2003. Hundreds of displaced animals come through our doors each year and it takes a lot of time, rehabilitation and veterinary care to place them into new homes. With such great support from the Town of Branford, our dedicated staff and our terrific volunteer base, we provide some of the best animal cont

We offer many programs and services to educate, inform and inspire people to take responsible care of their pets and to treat them with the kindness they deserve. With the support from people from all over Connecticut and beyond, we are helping to create a better community for all.

Right now we tend to talk about the amount of people who are calling to rehome their animals .
But what we haven’t been talking about is how the animals react once they are in the shelter . We hear from owners all of the time “ oh he will be great .. I’ve never seen aggression out of him” but what people don’t recognize is that shelter life is very different from home life .

Let’s imagine for a minute that you’ve lost the home that you love .. now let’s add that you’ve lost all of your family and the cozy bed you would sleep in . Let’s also consider that you no longer are eating the foods that you once were familiar with . And how about that you now live behind bars where are the smells and lighting and environment is different ….
Do you think you would act different ?

Do you think you might feel depressed , frightened , maybe you would have anxiety or even possibly lash out ?

Animals go through this same process once they are abandoned or given away to animal shelters . When you relieve yourself of the “ burden “ of the animal, the aftermath is left for animal shelter or animal rescue workers to deal with .

Many times animals are mislabeled as aggressive because of their initial evaluation. And even euthanized because of their reactions to the new environment.

We say all of this because while so many people are looking to just get rid of their pets , please be thoughtful as to what happens on the other end . These animals didn’t ask to be adopted and they certainly didn’t ask to be left behind.

Please consider carefully before bringing animals into your homes - it’s a huge responsibility- just like having kids . And you should think way ahead about how life could change and be sure that those changes include these animals that consider you their family 🐶♥️🏡🐈‍⬛♥️🏡🐰🏡♥️
