The Royal Farlowella Catfish / Sturisoma panamense

We have two more of these unique whiptail catfish left! Also known as the royal whiptail or twig catfish, they are known for their twig or leaf mimicry as well as their peaceful demeanor. They aren’t particularly active, preferring to rest on branches or leaves, or simply on the glass of their tank. Their primary diet is biofilm, so housing them in a mature tank with driftwood is best. They should primarily be fed high quality algae wafers and fresh or blanched veggies, but the occasional meaty foods like bloodworms or brine shrimp are appreciated as well.

The royal Farlowella catfish typically gets to be around 8 inches long. While that may sound like a large fish, they are very slender and not very active, so they do not require extremely large tanks. A 30 gallon aquarium suits them well. Temperatures between 70 and 86 can be tolerated, but their ideal range lies between 72 and 80. They are a South American species, so soft water with pH levels between 6.5 and 7.5 are ideal.

This kid is one of the several in-house produced crested geckos we have available! These were produced from our harlequin pair, and are growing up quite nicely! They should be striking black and white geckos as adults. This baby is particularly calm for a baby crestie. Come meet them today!
