Chuck Norris may be 4 years old but he plays like a puppy!

If you don't find Chuck bathing in the adoration of people then there's only one other thing he'll be doing and that's tossing his toys around until you come play with him!

Some of his favorite games include: you chasing him & his toy, tug-o-war regardless of the suitability of the toy, running along the fence with the other dogs, eating mulberries, rolling in mulberries, and gardening.

This July we have the pleasure of having our Dine 'n Donate with Papa Johns🍕

When it comes to dogs, Shera is the epitome of a long-stay shelter dog.

We aren't sure where she came from, what it was like, or how long she was there. All we know is that she was transferred to wchs at the end of March with a severe distrust of people and an intense fear of loud noises and her own reflection. She refused to be touched even to be leashed or unleashed, was intensely afraid of doorways, and wouldn't even eat if anyone was watching her.

With three months of patience, care, and lots and lots of peanut butter, Shera has made leaps and bounds with her confidence but we know she'd progress so much faster in a home with some patient folks to help her continue building her confidence so she can have a chance to be the best she can be!

Shera adores other dogs and likely would flourish with another playful dog to observe and learn from but it's not a requirement! If you have love in your heart and a passion for the animals who need you most, Shera is the dog for you. Show her you'll stick with her and Shera will stick with you for life.

Shera just turned a year old, spending her very first birthday in shelter, with us. She's a medium dog and clocks in at just under 40lbs. She's spayed, microchipped, and fully up-to-date on vaccinations💉

With an influx of calls about stray cats; particularly incredibly friendly cats, we want to remind all of the pet parents out there about the importance of microchipping your beloved pet!

A pet escaping is a nerve-racking, terrifying experience, especially a frightened or untrained dog or an indoor cat who has no regards for the dangers of the road, cars, or any other number of things.

Microchipping is an easy and painless way to give you some peace of mind and, if the worst happens, a way to help your beloved pet find their way back home!

Once the chip is properly registered, the microchip company takes care of the rest. If someone finds your pet they can search that microchip number with an easy scan and notify the chip company. The chip company then will notify you and help put you into contact with the person on your terms, without having to give out any personal info you don't want them to!

If you have found a stray animal and need a microchip scan most vet offices readily offer this quick and easy service. We also offer microchip scans at WCHS during open hours, no appointments needed!

Today is a day to reflect on the masculine energies in our lives and how they've taken care of us. In this vein, Shera would like to thank our Animal Care Lead. He may not be a father but he takes wonderful care of her and all of our shelter guests! Thanks for being a great Dog & Cat Dad!

UPDATE: Rubixcube's owner came in and surrendered him to the shelter. He is doing fantastic and his road rash is healing. He is looking for his new forever home! He has been great with everybody he has met at the shelter and has done well with the other dogs.

The dog shelter is looking for assistance to help locate Rubixcube’s owner. He was struck by a car earlier this afternoon in the 1800 block of sand ridge road. He is resting comfortably at the shelter, but we would really like to get him home. He is a neutered male. He is microchipped but the numbers are disconnected and the rescue he was adopted from said it comes back to an address in Toledo that they no longer live at. If you recognize rubixcube please have his owners contact the shelter so we can get him home.

Another week comes to an end with another round of our shelter guests available for adoption!
