This morning I carried a magazine down by the creek and settled into my favorite reading spot.

The water hummed its familiar mountain tune, sunlight filtered through the trees, and for a little while the world got quiet. The rustle of leaves, birds calling from somewhere high above, the creek bubbling over stone. As a little girl, I never imagined that one day these simple moments would become some of the most precious. Back then I was always in a hurry to grow up. Now I find myself slowing down, savoring things Mamaw Taylor understood all along.

A good book.
A shaded creek bank.
A soft blanket and enough time to sit still.

The mountains have a way of reminding us who we are when life gets too loud. They ask nothing from us except that we pause long enough to listen.

The world feels a little less heavy beside a creek. Maybe that’s why mountain folks have always been drawn to water. It washes away more than dust, carries off worry, softens hard thoughts, and reminds us to slow down for a spell.

This morning felt like a gift.

Foraged mornings just taste different here. 🌿🍄

Our breakfast quiche features a scratch-made crust filled with foraged mushrooms from the farm, Ashe County cheese, farm fresh eggs, herbs from the garden, fresh spinach, baked into a flaky golden perfection. Served alongside local bacon, homemade yogurt, seasonal fruit, fresh orange juice, and a full coffee bar.

On cool mountain mornings, breakfast is enjoyed fireside beneath the veranda, slow, warm, and surrounded by the sounds of the woods waking up around you.

The perfect start to a Wildwood Heart day. ✨

Even though the rain has finally started falling across our mountains, and they’re calling for 1–3 inches over the next several days… in all honesty, it barely scratches the surface of what these woods and fields need right now. We are still dealing with some of the worst drought conditions our area has seen since 1920. The creeks are low, the ground is dry deep beneath the surface, and one careless spark could change everything, because of that, there will be NO fires at the farm until further notice.

Wildwood Heart was built around nights by the fire, stories under the stars, laughter drifting through the trees, and smoke curling into cool Appalachian air. But protecting this land comes first. These mountains have cared for generations of us… now it’s our turn to care for them. For now, we trade bonfires for lightning bugs, lantern glow, soft rain on tent roofs, and the sound of frogs singing their gratitude back to the sky. 🌧️✨

Thank you all for understanding and helping us protect these sacred hills until the earth heals a little more.

The farm is thirsty.
A few brave wildflowers have started peeking through the soil, but most are still waiting on a good rain to wake the hills back up. The earth is cracked, the creek is running low, and every living thing out here is looking toward the sky.

Fingers crossed for a long, soaking rain over these mountains soon. 🌧️🌱
