Red has found his forever home!
Today is a special day for Rusty's Rescues! Our sweet boy Red has officially been adopted.

His new owner, Jerry, lost his beloved dog two years ago. After taking time to heal, he felt ready to open his home again. When Jerry met Red for the first time, the connection was instant. After a second visit, it was clear they were meant for each other.

Red walked out our doors today with a wagging tail and a new best friend. We couldn't be happier for this pair and the fresh start they're beginning together.

For the past week, Red has been hanging out with us at Rusty's Retreat, and we're excited to share what we've learned about this awesome guy!
✅ Great with other dogs and loves daycare playtime
✅ Walks beautifully on a leash
✅ Enjoys car rides
✅ Handled a busy farmer's market like a pro
✅ Friendly, adaptable, and ready for his next adventure

He's been settling in wonderfully and showing us just how special he is! Red is looking for an active, 18+ home.

🎉 Now is the perfect time to meet him! Through August 9, Hill's Pet Nutrition is generously covering adoption fees for dogs and cats 6+ months old through the Animal Rescue League of Iowa. That means you can use the money you save on adoption fees to spoil your new best friend instead!

Today's walk was another reminder that Red is happiest when he's outdoors. He walks beautifully, loves taking in all the smells, and enjoys simply being out in nature.
This handsome guy has the energy and intelligence of a cattle breed and is ready for an active home that can keep both his body and mind busy. If your ideal day includes:

As the sun rises over the cornfields, Red is hoping today is the day his forever family finds him. ❤️

Red is a handsome, high-energy guy who's looking for an adult-only (18+) home where he can thrive. He loves to stay active and would do best with someone who can match his enthusiasm for life and help him channel all that energy into fun and adventure.

Meet our newest Rusty's Rescue! This is Red! He is a bright, athletic young cattle dog who's ready to find his perfect match. At just 1 year old, he's bursting with energy, enthusiasm and that classic heeler intelligence. He loves staying active, learning new things and being part of whatever his people are doing!

Because of his natural herding instincts, Red needs an adult only (18+) home. He can be mouthy and pushy when over excited, which is typical for his breed, but not ideal around small children. With adults who understand herding breeds, or are excited to learn, he will thrive!!

Red enjoys mental and physical enrichment and needs someone who will appreciate a smart dog with a working mindset.

He is sweet, smart, loyal and makes goofy faces! He's the kind of dog who will happily join you for hikes, runs or backyard adventures, then snuggle up when the day winds down. He is eager to learn and will excel at training games!
