COURTESY POST: On evening of Fri April 18th, a young, neutered male dog in the Blue Ridge–Ellijay area, near Doublehead Gap and Noontootla Creek was found. He appears to be around 2 years old, a black and tan possibly Rottweiler mix. He is medium size maybe 50lbs give or take. He’s very friendly, well-socialized (indoor dog behavior), well-fed, and has a clean coat. There’s a noticeable collar indentation in his fur, and he has the standard green belly marker.

It’s clear he’s been well cared for, so we’re hoping to reunite him with his family. He may belong to a local resident or possibly weekend visitors to the area.

The Humane Society of Blue Ridge cat of the week is W***y. He is a two-year-old tabby with a short coat that is fluffy like a bunny! W***y enjoys being groomed, so he will appreciate you helping him to always look his very best. He is very affectionate and loves attention, so you will fall in love with him the moment you meet him. W***y is a small, quiet cutie pie who has never met a stranger. He has such a wonderful demeanor and is such a happy little guy. He gets along famously with his Adoption Center suitemates. Visit W***y at the Adoption Center at 171 Mineral Springs Road in Blue Ridge and see for yourself just how wonderful he is! SPRING is here!! While we love spring and all the new life it brings, it also means new litters of abandoned puppies and kittens. This is frightening considering most shelters (including us) are full and have a long waiting list to get in. On any given day the Humane Society of Blue Ridge can have 150 animals on our waiting list.

The Georgia Department of Agriculture released these numbers earlier this year:

In Georgia, 33,109 dogs and cats were euthanized in 2024, compared to 12,271 in 2020.

Shelters are in crisis mode, but there is HOPE! YOU can help!
Your donation helps reduce the number of animals euthanized, increase the number of animals neutered and spayed, and reduce the number of animals relinquished by providing free pet food to those in a financial crisis.

Please consider pledging a donation to help us serve the growing needs of our local community.
