You can love your dog more than anything in the world and still have a dog that doesn't listen.

Because love and leadership are not the same thing.

Love is affection.
Love is care.
Love is meeting your dog's needs.

Leadership is setting expectations.
Leadership is creating boundaries.
Leadership is holding your dog accountable.

The best dog owners don't choose one or the other.

They do both.

And their dogs are better for it.

Most major behavior problems don't appear overnight.
They start small.

🐾Ignoring "place."

🐾Pulling a little harder on the leash.

🐾Blowing off recall once.

🐾Jumping on guests occasionally.

🐾Pushing through doorways.

Taking liberties when nobody corrects them.
Then months later people say:

"It came out of nowhere."

Usually it didn't.

The warning signs were there all along.
Small problems are easier to fix than big ones.
Don't wait until the behavior becomes important to start addressing it.

Being young explains behavior.

It doesn't excuse it.

Puppies jump because they're puppies.

Puppies bite because they're puppies.

Puppies ignore commands because they're puppies.

But if we excuse every unwanted behavior instead of teaching through it, those puppy habits become adult dog problems.

Your puppy doesn't need perfection, they need guidance.

Every day you're either building good habits or allowing bad ones to become permanent.

Mandy is our newest dog trainer at Elevate Canine.

Mandy's past careers have been photography and supporting emotional and behavioral growth as a paraprofessional and RBT. She has a love for all animals, especially dogs and highland cows. Her passion for dog training comes from that love for connection, trust, and helping dogs and people understand themselves and each other better. When Mandy talks about what she has learned most since becoming a dog trainer "I have learned that dog training is more than just obedience, it’s about building confidence, and creating stronger relationships."

She is a mom of two teens and recently adopted Georgia, a Great Dane, who has made her life brighter and has made her more passionate about learning about dog behavior and training. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, being outdoors, and trying new things. She is always up for an adventure. Nothing makes her happier than to know that she helped make a positive impact in someone’s or a dog’s life!

What would happen if you drove 20 mph over the speed limit every day and nobody ever stopped you?

You'd probably keep doing it.

Not because you're a bad person because there was never a consequence.

Dogs work the same way.

If pulling gets them where they want to go, they'll pull, if barking gets attention, they'll bark, if ignoring commands works, they'll ignore commands.

Behavior that gets rewarded gets repeated, behavior that works continues.

The goal isn't punishment, the goal is accountability without accountability, rules are just suggestions.

We're excited to kick off our new Social Club with a Pack Walk!

This isn't a formal obedience class or a training session. It's an opportunity for owners and dogs to get out, enjoy a walk together, practice real-world skills, and spend time with a community of like-minded dog owners.

Too often training ends when class is over. Our goal is to create opportunities for owners to continue using their dog's skills in everyday life while having fun and building confidence along the way.

During the walk we'll focus on:
✔ Calm leash manners
✔ Neutrality around other dogs and people
✔ Real-world exposure
✔ Enjoying the walk and the company around you

No constant drills. No pressure. Just a structured, trainer-guided walk designed to help you and your dog enjoy life together.

📅 Date: June 27th
🕤 Time: 9:30 AM at Sertoma Park
💲 Cost: $35 per dog

To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, dogs must have completed a training program through Elevate Canine Academy and be approved by our training staff prior to attending.

One of my favorite things about dog training is watching owners realize their dog was capable of more than they thought.

This dog didn't become successful because we found a magic trick.

They became successful because their owner stayed consistent.

They practiced when it wasn't convenient.

They held boundaries when it would've been easier to give in.

They worked through the messy middle.

The result wasn't a perfect dog.

The result was a dog that understands expectations and an owner who knows how to communicate them.

That's where real progress happens.

Sit.
Buddy, sit.
Come on, sit.
Sit.
Good boy!"

If your dog only listens after the fifth command, they didn't ignore you. They learned the first four didn't matter.

Every time we repeat ourselves, negotiate, or give endless warnings, we're teaching our dogs that compliance is optional.

The dogs that listen reliably aren't usually smarter than everyone else's dogs. They've simply learned that commands mean something.

Clear expectations create clear communication. When everything is optional, nothing is reliable.
