It’s been a busy summer with lots of pups joining our program, including a gorgeous bonded pair of girls and 4-month old golden mix puppies. We have a HUGE NEED for FOSTER HOMES 🏡 Fostering doesn’t have to be a long term commitment. You can foster for a few days or even a weekend to give an orphan a break from the kennel. They don’t need a big space or a fancy house….just a little routine and love during what can be a scary time ❤️

Update on our boy Dandy 🐶💛
Foster needed! Please share❣️

Dandy continues to heal after surgery to save his front leg. Thanks to generous donors, we raised enough to pay for his surgery. Additional donations are needed for his ongoing care ❤️

What’s Next? Dandy urgently needs a foster home 🏡 He was with a foster last weekend and did great! They reported that he is precious. He is quick to bond but is very wary and frightened of men. It makes us wonder what else has happened to him in his short life 😢 Dandy is extremely playful and loves other dogs, probably a little too much because he wants to play but must be restricted while his leg heals. If you have a little extra room for Dandy, we would love to hear from you. He will be SO much more comfortable recuperating in a home environment than in a kennel. This Memorial Day, may we pause to remember the true meaning of the holiday and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. As we spend time with family and friends, let us keep their sacrifice and the freedom they helped protect in our hearts. If you have the opportunity, hug a veteran and thank them for their service ❤️🇺🇸💙🇺🇸❤️

We are sad to share that Rhodes, adopted October 21, 2023, crossed the rainbow bridge on April 25. Rho Rho’s loss came unexpectedly after some complex medical issues. Her Mom shared the following. “The only words we can use is that is was such a tragic unexpected loss, she was such an amazing blessing in our lives for the time we had her. She came with “problems” that showed us we all deserve an opportunity to learn and heal from our past. Helping her through her struggles taught us a lot about ourselves and how much we all deserve the patience from others to heal. We grew together. She truly made us better people. I hope her story encourages future adopters to provide an opportunity for other dogs like her to overcome their obstacles in a safe and loving environment. She was the best dog we ever had and we will miss her tremendously.” Run free Rho Rho. You left way too soon.

Update on Mr. Dandy Lion 🦁

Surgery to save Dandy’s leg was a success 🙌 and he is feeling much better. Thank you to everyone who donated ❤️❤️❤️

The leg will be splinted for several weeks and he needs to take it easy while the bones heal (per DOG-tor’s orders!) Dandy needs a foster home starting next week 🏡 If you can help please visit our website to complete a foster application! Dandy just needs a comfy spot where he can get some TLC and rest (no running or jumping). Can you help? If so we need you❣️

Dandy’s story is heartbreaking. This sweet young dog came to AGB from the Montgomery shelter after being hit by a car. His front leg was broken so severely that it was sticking out to the side. Now, the skilled surgeons at Veterinary Specialists of Birmingham are doing everything they can to save his leg. Dandy is only about 6 to 8 months old, and he deserves every chance at a full and happy life.

His surgery and follow-up care will be extensive, and we need to raise $4,000 toward his initial veterinary expenses. We expect the total cost of treatment to be much higher and will update the goal as needed. We urgently need the support of generous donors to help cover Dandy’s medical care. Every gift, no matter the size, makes a difference, and 100% of your donation will go directly toward Dandy’s treatment and recovery 💙

We are so grateful to the shelter staff who cared for Dandy, to our volunteer Rosy who immediately stepped up to make the roundtrip drive to Montgomery, and to the team at Veterinary Specialists of Birmingham for their quick response and expert care. Most of all, we are thankful for everyone who follows Dandy’s journey, shares his story, and helps give him hope for the future. Once he is on the road to recovery, Dandy will be available for adoption.
