Medical Monday: Starting Them Off Right

Puppies and kittens aren’t fully protected with just one set of vaccines. They need a series of boosters to build proper immunity as they grow.

At Birmingham Animal Hospital + Resort, we recommend boosters every 3 weeks—ideally at 6, 9, 12, and 15 weeks of age—to ensure full protection during this critical window.

We also run routine f***l tests and require two negative f***ls in a row. We only deworm if a f***l comes back positive, so we’re treating based on what your pet actually needs.

For Bordetella, we offer an oral option as part of our fear-free approach to keep the experience as low-stress as possible.

Setting a strong foundation early makes a big difference in long-term health.

If you’ve recently added a puppy or kitten, we’re here to help guide you through it.

Honey got adopted. 🤍

And honestly, we couldn’t have dreamed up a more perfect fit.

One of our newest technicians, Rachel, and her dog, Runner, officially welcomed Honey home — and she has settled right in like she’s always belonged there. Since leaving the shelter life behind, Honey has been going on walks, making friends at the dog park, sleeping in the bed, soaking up pool days, and living the spoiled life she always deserved.

The best part? She still gets to come see us for daycare every day, so we all get to continue loving on our sweet girl while watching her thrive in her new life.

Seeing dogs like Honey get a second chance is one of the best parts of what we do. Watching her go from waiting for a home to being completely loved has been so special for all of us.

Happy endings are our favorite kind. 🐾

🐾 Team Spotlight: Camden Marrs 🐾

Meet Camden — our Executive Assistant and one of the people helping keep everything at Birmingham Animal Hospital + Resort running behind the scenes!

Camden has been part of the BAHR team for almost 3 years and plays a huge role in helping improve processes, solve problems, and support our staff, clients, and patients every single day.

What made her want to work in veterinary medicine?
“I’ve always loved animals and wanted a career where I could make a difference. Veterinary medicine lets me combine my love for pets with my passion for helping people and supporting a great team.”

Her favorite part of the job?
“Getting to work alongside an amazing group of people while helping improve processes, solving problems, and finding ways to make things better for our patients, clients, and staff.”

Favorite thing about working at BAHR?
“Michaela and the people. We truly have a team that cares deeply about our patients and each other, and no two days are ever the same.”

A few fun facts about Camden:
🐾 Proud cat mom to Shadow, who runs the household
🐾 Survives busy shifts with iced coffee and RedBull
🐾 Huge fan of classic rock, sarcasm, and a good book
🐾 Can somehow turn almost any situation into a spreadsheet
🐾 Dream vacation = beautiful scenery, good food, and zero responsibilities

What does she want clients to know about the BAHR team?
“Every person here genuinely cares about your pets. Whether you're talking to a receptionist, technician, doctor, or resort team member, we're all working together with the same goal—providing the best care possible and raising the BAHR in veterinary medicine.”

And according to her coworkers, the one word that describes Camden best?
Hilarious 😂

We’re so thankful for everything Camden does for our team and for the pets and people who walk through our doors every day 🤍

Medical Monday: When Is It More Than an Upset Stomach?

Vomiting and diarrhea happen—but that doesn’t mean it should be ignored.

Diet changes, getting into something they shouldn’t, stress, and intestinal parasites are all common causes.

Does your pet tend to eat things they shouldn’t? That can sometimes lead to more serious issues, and in those cases we’re able to take radiographs to check for possible obstructions when needed.
Some cases are mild. Others just need a closer look.

At Birmingham Animal Hospital + Resort, we offer same-day appointments because we know these situations can’t always wait.

Our motto is simple: if you’re concerned, we’re concerned. No issue is too small.

We have a variety of ways to help depending on what’s going on—probiotics and supplements like FortiFlora and Pro-Pectalin, prescription diets for sensitive stomachs, and antibiotics when needed.
We also run routine f***l checks to screen for parasites and can treat them appropriately if found.
If something feels off, it’s always better to check than wait.
