What is basic obedience training?

Basic obedience is on-leash, on-collar training and consists of the following commands: come, sit, down, stay, heel, and variations of all of these. Jim uses both hand signals and voice commands. During the in-kennel Board and Train Program, he will work with your dog several times a day using a method of training developed through years of experience that utilizes firmness, repetition, consistency, positive reinforcement, and lots of love. In addition, your dog will learn door manners – how to enter and exit both your home and your vehicle in a safe and controlled manner.

After the initial in-kennel training, you will pick your dog up and have the first of six private classes. All family members aged 14 and up are invited and welcomed to attend. A critically important part of your dog’s training, these sessions are designed to teach you how to handle your dog and ensure that you understand and can properly execute all of the basic obedience commands. Jim will continue to work with you every seven to ten days, coaching and teaching you how to have a successful working relationship with your dog. He also encourages you to call any time during the follow-up period to receive needed support and guidance as your dog settles back into the home environment.

Wow! Great job, Dwayne! This is a clear demonstration of the excellent results that can be obtained with our Basic Obedience Board and Train Program. During the three-week in kennel training, Jim instills all of the basic obedience commands, using hand signals in addition to voice commands. After the initial training is complete, owners return for six follow-up classes. During these classes, Jim teaches the owners everything their dog has learned and works with them until they can execute all of the commands. Dwayne consistently attended the follow-up classes and worked with his dog on a daily basis, illustrating the key role that owners play in the successful outcome of the training. Well done! They’re so loyal. So loving. So effortlessly woven into your life that you don’t even realize how much they shape the way you exist. A dog doesn’t make a big show of their devotion—it’s in the little things.
The way they match your pace on a walk, the way they nudge you toward the door like they know fresh air is what you need. The way they sit beside you, like your presence alone is enough to make their whole world right.

They don’t complicate things. They don’t second-guess their love. They don’t hold back in fear of getting hurt. They live and love in the moment, reminding you, without trying, that life is better when you do the same.

And maybe that’s why people with dogs move through the world differently. A little softer. A little more patient. A little more willing to believe in the good. Because when you’ve been loved by a creature who asks for nothing but your company, you start to realize maybe that’s all we ever really needed ..

🐶😸 If you are celebrating Thanksgiving today, please be mindful of your pet’s safety. We generally recommend to be careful and just not give people food to your pets as even if it is generally a safe food, the added salt and spices are not good for your pet. Pancreatitis is one of the leading holiday emergencies in pets. But if you sneak your dog a bite of human food, check this food list, and other lists, first. We hope you have a wonderful and safe day!!
