🐾 Freedom Friday Flashback: Tate’s Big Boat Adventure ⛵🌊

Back in 2022, Tate’s parents took him on a boat for the very first time—and it became an unforgettable milestone.

"Yesterday was Tate’s first time on a boat. It took about an hour for him to calm down using the clicker and rewarding good behavior (not barking at the waves). After that, we both cried happy tears and had an amazing time!" 💛

This moment beautifully captures what freedom means to so many of our teams—not perfection, but the ability to experience life together, even through challenges. With patience, training, and trust, Tate found his calm... and his people found joy.

If you’re working toward your own version of freedom with your dog, we’d love to help.

🐾 For today’s Training Tip Tuesday… 🐾

Let’s talk about enrichment—because dogs need mental workouts too! 🧠

Enrichment activities like puzzle toys, snuffle mats, and scent games give your dog a chance to use their brain, boost confidence, and burn energy in a fun and healthy way. They help reduce boredom, anxiety, and even unwanted behaviours.

Check out Juno in the video below, working hard with her treat-dispensing bottle! 🍼🐶
This simple enrichment game encourages your dog to problem-solve and work for their reward. It’s a great way to:

✨ Boost your dog’s brainpower
✨ Reduce boredom and anxiety
✨ Promote slow, mindful eating

A mentally stimulated dog is a happy, well-behaved dog. Give it a go and let us know your pup’s favourite enrichment game! 💛

For today’s Success Saturday, let’s take a look at Canelo’s journey — a story of fear, patience, and steady progress. 💛

Canelo’s journey hasn’t been easy — From the start, he barked at everything and everyone, always scared and unsure.

They tried a month of training before, which helped a little, but Canelo didn’t really learn how to trust. Over time, things got harder — he went from tolerating the dog park to trying to bite anyone who came near. Even at home, he started snapping at family when they tried to guide him into his room. Vet visits were stressful, and no one could touch him.

Things took a scary turn when he was attacked on a walk by an off-leash dog. That moment changed everything for him — he ran off and hid, terrified.

But here’s the beautiful part...

With the support of her family, and the help of the Lead the Way Team, Canelo has started to bloom. 🌱

He’s now joining pack walks, playing with other dogs, learning leash skills, and even getting used to a muzzle — all huge wins for a dog who used to be so afraid. He's still a work in progress, but the progress is real — and it’s all thanks to patience, commitment, and a lot of love.

Way to go Team Canelo. We’re proud of you! 🐾💛

For today's , we want to share with our Paw-some community how to speak your dog’s language when they are showing signs of stress.
😨
We offer a weekly virtual class included in all our programs. One of our class series is all about doggie body language and teaches amazing paw-rents all about how dogs are communicating with you in their very own dog language!
😲
Your dog’s tongue can be a window into their emotional state of being. One example is lip licks. When a dog licks their lips over and over they are attempting to self-soothe. Something is causing a trigger.
👅
Knowing this allows you to be able to identify and remove or avoid the stressor so that your dog can calm down and feel safe. They will love you even more for understanding their language.
🥰
We all want to know what our dogs are saying! Be the best paw-rent and learn to !

We came across this adorable photo the other day, and it was too cute not to share with our pack!
💜
When Dakota's family found out they were pregnant, they wanted to be sure Dakota was socialized, ready, and well-adjusted to a new human in the household by the time the baby arrived. We worked with Dakota on training with a doll and working on being calm. When Dakota's mom went into labor, Dakota came for a board and train for continued work on new stimuli.
👶
Her pawrents did a FANTASTIC job of practicing and preparing with her training prior to the baby and look at those results.
🐾
If you have a family transition on the horizon, we can help you prepare. Remember, is much more than just getting along with other dogs. At we focus on preparing you and your dog for experiences. That way you know how to calmly navigate the various situations you'll navigate daily.

Today's features an adorable pup, Bo!
🐶
When we first met his family, they shared their dream of Bo and his sister Evie living their best life. They wanted Bo to be social around other dogs and to listen to his humans. They also wanted to be able to have guests over and for them to feel safe and comfortable around their dogs.
💜
With those goals in mind, Bo enrolled in our Freedom Program, and we customized his training journey to set him up for success. In our video, you'll see the foundation we worked on building during his stay with the team.
📚
Toward the end of the video, Bo returns to his pack and shows off his new skills!
🤩
If your dog struggles to listen, stay calm around new friends, walk calmly on the leash, or any other behavior that isn't helping you live your dream life, we can help!

Just because your dog is instinctively intelligent doesn't mean you won't both need help to communicate effectively!
🐕
Poodle mixes and the doodle craze aren't new, but lately, we've been talking to many families who are frustrated that their smart dog isn't behaving.
👹
For today's we wanted to remind you that all breeds and mixes need training and there are a lot of different personalities even within the same litter. Knowing your breed is important and will help you understand the probable temperament, exercise requirement, and health concerns. BUT investing in the relationship with your dog, developing good manners, and learning what they are saying is ultimately the key to your long-term best life.
🥰
If you are considering getting your first dog and want to discuss finding the best fit for your family - we can help!
🐶
If you have a star student that is convinced they are smarter than you - we can help!

If you are struggling with anxiety, potty training, leash behavior, or interacting with others - we can help!

For our , we’re celebrating the amazing progress of the sweet and lively Franny! 💜🐾

Franny—is a sweet, loving, and fun pup who’s brought so much joy to her family since being adopted at just 2 months old. Born in foster care, she’s been making hearts melt ever since.

She’s smart, affectionate, and full of curiosity—she’s made a great start with house training, rides calmly in the car, handles vet visits well, and is happy to show off her “sit” and “paw” skills. Like many pups, she came with a few challenges, and her family reached out for support to help guide her adventurous spirit.

✨ And what a journey it’s been!

Franny is making great progress with her “Touch” and “Watch Me” cues at home. While she’s still working on consistency during walks, her focus and understanding continue to grow.

🏡 She’s also doing wonderfully with her own room in Mom and Dad’s bedroom—choosing to rest, play, and keep her toys there. It’s a clear sign she feels happy, safe, and confident in her space.

🎓 We’re thrilled to share that Franny has officially completed her program and received her graduation certificate! We are so proud of her and her humans for all the hard work and growth.

Way to go, Franny!

For today’s Thursday, let’s look back on the incredible journey of Tugger—a true example of love, loyalty, and adventure.

In February 2012, Tugger found his forever home through Amy’s organization—and what a life he lived!

Tugger was Allyson’s ultimate adventure buddy. He protected the yard, respected the neighbors, and always knew when to give space and comfort. He earned his AKC Canine Good Citizenship shortly after joining Allyson, and together they walked and ran thousands of miles, climbed mountains, explored forests, and discovered new neighborhoods.

He was Allyson’s Velcro companion—always by her side—and her steady support through the hardest years of her life. Tugger wasn’t just a pet—he was a true partner, offering quiet strength and loyalty day after day.

He was there for both Allyson and her husband, resting at their feet, offering comfort during illness, and welcoming their baby girl with patience and love. He played gently, let her boss him around, walked lightly on leash with her, and soothed her big feelings.

Tugger, your legacy of love and loyalty lives on. Thank you for being part of the Lead the Way family. 💜

Our Story

When I opened Lead the Way Dog Training, what was always most important to me was making a huge impact on the lives of people I come in contact with. I have always found it very rewarding to see families go from the chaos and frustration of their dogs not listening, to the peace of having a dog that listens… the freedom to truly enjoy their dog. To me it’s all about that impact. We do things very differently here, and the families we get to help really love how THEY become part of our family during training. The sense of community, knowing you have people who understand you. Our clients become friends who call us when they need anything. All the trainers and staff at LTW have our own passions for dogs… rescue, service dogs, therapy dogs, obedience… and our combined passion and knowledge helps give everyone the best - for your family and for your dog! Most of all, it’s important to know that we are compassionate people and we make training your dog FUN! And it works. Give us a call and tell us all about your dog, and we’ll give you all the details about how we can help you quickly. - Love, Amy (Owner of LTW)
