The Great Pyrs & Paws Rescue Succumb to Pyr pressure, foster, adopt, donate, volunteer, sponsor, educate. One dog at a time… https://linktr.ee/gppr

Great Pyrs & Paws Rescue is a 501c3 organization with a network of volunteers across the United States. We rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome unwanted, displaced, and neglected Great Pyrenees along with other Livestock Guardian dogs that are abandoned in high kill shelters throughout Texas. By placing them in caring and nurturing foster homes we are able to successfully adopt them to loving homes th

roughout the Western United states. Our mission is to engage community members to promote better treatment of these dogs and reduce euthanasia numbers through adoptions, education, and other resources.

A December Adoption Update for these three lucky ladies! Lucy will make the trip up from Texas to stretch her legs on 2 acres in Oregon. Olive is staying in Washington to live on a large property with two cat siblings. Winnie is now officially a beach⛱️ bum living her best life at the Oregon Coast! 🌊
Thank you to the fosters, adopters, and volunteers who made these connections possible! We couldn't do this important work without you! Speaking of these important duties GPPR is tasked with, we also depend upon generous financial donations from you to provide medical care and other essentials to the dogs entrusted to our safe keeping. We came up about $350 short of our Giving Tuesday needs and wondered if you could help. Any amount you could give, again would be so appreciated! Click our donate button or click our profile and give directly to our Venmo or PayPal. We can, together, make a difference! Thank you for your help!

📣 Friends, NOLI is still available in Portland, OR and seeking her forever home. Noli is a Pyrenees, Maremma, and Anatolian mix a little over a year old. She is playful, gentle and calm, loves patrolling the yard, going on hikes and gets along with cats, dogs and humans (although she’s shy at first, which can be typical for this breed). She is current on all vaccines, house, leash and crate trained. What’s not to love about such a Pyrfect companion?! Noli is not a GPPR dog nor have we had the pleasure of meeting her, you can contact her caregiver at [email protected] or call 503-544-4757 ask for Jako. Wouldn’t it be great to get Noli home for the holidays?

❤️Update, a forever home has been found! Happy Holidays Cap! 📣 Friends, CAP still needs a foster or adopter. We posted him back in July, his family is moving out of the country and can’t take him with. He’s about 14 months old and has been an indoor and outdoor dog. He gets along with other dogs, cats and children. He is a gentle, loyal dog and keeps the coyotes away from the property. He definitely requires a 6ft physical fence and his family says he’s a true gentle giant, there’s no resources guarding, and he is friendly to everyone. If you are interested in hearing more about Cap, please email [email protected] or complete an application to foster at www.greatpyrsandpaws.org.

📣 Friends, this is TEXANA! This sweet and goofy girl is looking for a foster or adopter. ❤️ She’s a typical female Pyr, independent, active, funny, and she loves pets. She’s needs to be the only dog in the home as she wants all of your attention. Texana is about 18 months old, UTD on vaccines, spayed, fully house trained and good on a leash. Her current family is working with our friends at New Hope Behavioral Health Consultants for the Guardians so we can evaluate her to find her the Pyrfect family! If you are interested in fostering or adopting Texana please visit our website at www.greatpyrsandpaws.org or email [email protected].

A Warm Wednesday Welcome to this sweet boy, Elton! If you have been following us or , you know about the large group of Pyrs that were rescued from a property earlier this year in Oregon. Some of our volunteers went and visited them and were able to take Elton (formerly Tea Cake) in as a GPPR foster.
So far Elton has been described as "shy, sweet and chill" by his foster. He's working on being comfortable in his new home🏡 environment but likes and is respectful to the senior resident pup🐶. Leash walking is also new for him, but he sleeps😴 well in his crate at night🌙. And if he needs a little persuasion to try something new, cheese🧀 goes a long way with Elton! Elton will continue to adjust to his foster home, and will be available for adoption. Watch for updates here and at www.greatpyrsandpaws.com.

📣 Friends, Tuesday December 2 is and we hope you consider GPPR when you donate. If I’m being honest, I’m struggling coming up with a compelling narrative of why you should give us your donation. There are dozens of really good livestock guardian breed rescues across the US. They’re struggling in similar ways as we are, unimaginable numbers of displaced dogs in need, dogs in shelters, strays found by good samaritans, people rehoming their dogs for various reasons. Fosters are difficult to find, vet bills are increasingly more expensive especially in the Pacific Northwest, and volunteers are going through their own struggles and life changes. I can tell you that without your donations, we will cease to exist and what we are doing is important. We don’t have all the answers to solving this overpopulation problem yet we’d like to keep trying to be part of the solution. Can you help us please? You can donate via PayPal or Venmo -find our website in our linktr.ee and find the donate page to donate Chewy cards or send paper checks to 2660 NE Hwy 20, Suite 610 PMB 543, Bend OR 97701 or donate below. Thank you for your continued support!

📣 Friends, we have sad news here at heartquarters, Homer has passed away 💔. Homer was pulled in poor condition from a TX shelter in November 2020 and send to one of our amazing fosters in TX to heal. He was adopted up north but didn’t do well with the children so he was transported to another one of our amazing fosters in Oregon as a long term senior foster dog. It was here he lived his best life, being cherished by his foster family and living in Pyr harmony with his Pyr sister, Grace. We want to thank our fosters who likely gave him the best years of his life and for our volunteers and donors who helped make it possible. Tuesday is and we hope you will consider us when donating so we can save more dogs like Homer, we can’t do this without you!

📣 Folks, Bolt is waiting patiently for his forever home! Bolt is a 5 1/2 year old Great Pyrenees-Catahoula leopard dog mix. Bolt is a sweet and loyal companion, enjoys being in the yard when his foster mom gardens, and loves pets and attention. Bolt has a serious side, he barks when he perceives a threat (the UPS truck, mailman, etc) and a silly side, finding all sorts of random things to play with-he’d rather forage something around the house and cares less about dog toys. Bolt is super helpful around the house, he loves to help load the dishwasher, clean off the counters, and helps with the laundry by dragging clothes and towels from the laundry room outside in the rain 😂 he’s all about conservation! His new family should be sturdy as he can get spunky and want to play while doing zoomies around his people. He would love his own person/people to reciprocate his loyalty, someone who likes to relax and also find adventure. If you are looking for your “ride or die” dog, that’s Bolt! Bolt could get along with a female dog but would prefer to eat alone. Bolt is being fostered in Tacoma, WA and can be transported within WA and OR. If you want more information on Bolt, please inquire in the comments or email [email protected] or complete an application at greatpyrsandpaws.org

📣 Community post 🗣️ Friends, any of our followers have friends in OKLAHOMA!? If you do please SHARE! This family reached out about a young female Pyr possible mix they found as a stray, no chip and in poor shape. This family got her up to date on vaccines, preventative and confirmed she is heart worm negative! 🎉 They are trying to find her a good home and so far, have been unsuccessful. They say she is sweet and “phenomenal with all humans!” She is not doing well with their other dogs and they don’t want to take her to a shelter. They’ve reached out to every rescue they could find with no luck. This is not a GPPR dog but if you are interested leave a comment below!

📣 UPDATE: Foster found! Thank you everyone!

Friends, this 8 month old male could use an experienced foster! His family reached out and are over their head with his Pyr traits and we can’t help if there’s no where for him to go. He’s said to be good with dogs and cats, he was born on a sheep farm to working parents but hasn’t been exposed to livestock and will need training. He’s a typical teenage Pyr, pushing boundaries and making his own decisions on whether he should be listening to the people or do his own thing, we know how that goes! He’ll need some help with resource guarding, walking on a leash and other basic skills. If you can help please reach out by email [email protected]
