The NorthWest Therapeutic Riding Center is a Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International Premier Accredited center, located in Whatcom County, in Western Washington. There is strict adherence to the highest national standards of safety of its participants.

Our young Fjord, Sphere (aka Tryggve), has been hard at work this winter, learning all about his new job.

Some highlights for him have been getting to do some new tricks (standing on a pedestal), improving his dressage, and getting to join his friends in group turnout!

We are thrilled with his progress, and you will likely see him observing and participating in lessons without a rider during the spring session.

We’ve got a full spring schedule of lessons lined up, and volunteers are needed to help assist with barn chores, horses, and participants during our 7-week session.

In February we hosted classes from Whatcom Community College’s physical therapy assistant program and Western Washington University’s recreation program at the farm to learn more about equine-assisted services.
We always love having students out to visit our program and learn more about what we do at the riding center!

Participants at NWTRC learn horsemanship and riding skills in an environment tailored to their individual needs and learning styles. NWTRC offers instruction to riders of all skill levels. Goals are riding-skill-based, but individuals and parents often report many therapeutic benefits of participation. These benefits include improvements in physical strength, balance, coordination, mobility, self-confidence, self-control, peer interaction, and social skills.

Your donation makes a difference by:
🎁Reducing the cost of adaptive horsemanship and riding lessons so that families pay less than 20% of the actual cost of programs.

🎁Giving the highest quality feed, care, and training to our amazing horses.

🎁Training over 100 volunteers annually.

🎁Providing exceptional certified riding instructors.

🎁Maintaining our beautiful 5-acre site and facilities in Bellingham, WA.

Oakley is feeling very cool after getting clipped today!

Why do we clip the horses during winter?
🐴 Help regulate their body temperature and prevent overheating
🐴 Decreased sweating during exercise and play time, and shorter drying time
🐴 Easier and faster grooming
🐴 Prevent them from getting mud fever
🐴 Help with various health conditions
