I had never heard that there is an observance month for hoof care. How cool!?! You know what else is cool? This awesome , short video, of a giraffe getting its hoof maintenance done 😊.

I want to be 😎 too. Too late for me to get on the wagon for February but let’s push celebrating the clip cloppy, tip tappy, tootsies of our hooves pals into March! If you schedule hoof maintenance in the month of March I will take $10 off your bill. Saving money and taking care of them does? That maybe the coolest!

What I genuinely appreciate about Clint Goodwin is that he is so incredibly selfless. He is willing to teach and help anyone willing to learn and put in the work even if it could be to his own detriment. Those are not just words on a screen but an applied principal in his everyday life. I was a self taught alpaca shearer and had been doing fine for years before I met Clint. Meeting him not only improved my skills but also brought me into a family! He is an amazing shearer, mentor and human, I am so thrilled to see him get some recognition for that ❤️

“I started shearing in 1998 by attending the shearing school. I went home and did a few local small flocks. I come back here every year to the school and help teach others. I learn more by teaching then I do attending school. If you learn how to teach someone, you learn more each year. I have gone through advanced classes to get certified as a senior shearer. I am now shearing about 2,500 sheep and 1,000 lamas each year. That's all me, no hired help. My season starts in February and goes through July and I may pick up a few in the fall. Shearing is my main income, and I also have a hundred-acre farm, so I can be home the rest of the year to farm. I really enjoy what I do and I work with people all over the state who want to learn. I know that it could take income away from me the more people that are out there shearing, but the reward is in seeing other people get started. I just had a really nice day last week… I sheared 131 sheep in 9 hours, that was a good day.”

Time to get on the books for 2024 shearing!

Taking new clients and covering all of Western WA

Specializing in camelid shearing so bring on all the fluffy llamas and alpacas and let’s get them naked for the summer!

Don’t worry I have love for your wooly sheeply pals also. I’ve even been known to strip the fleece off a goat here and there.

All shears include toes/hooves as needed. Teeth can be done at an additional charge. If assistance is needed for additional herd management practices please coordinate in advance so time can be saved for that.

After a dishonest person sold me CL positive goats I became and even BIGGER advocate for testing your herd, buying from those who test and seeing the results for yourself! I have sent in hundreds of samples to WADDL and they have always been great to work with! Do. The. Testing!

With Dr. Claire Burbick from Washington SU, learn how testing goats for CAE, CL, & Johnes work, how accurate, and more...

Last week I attended the WSU Shearing School in Moses Lake, WA. The school places emphasis on New Zealand technique of shearing. Over the course of five days, 16 students are walked through the proper steps for executing this technique. I learned a lot and definitely feel like this opportunity has advanced me as a shearer. I made new friends, got to put faces to names from the internet and found a renewed sense of community. I am preparing to head into a packed week of work and for the first time since I started shearing (5 years ago according to Facebook), I am eager to see the sheep 😆
