2025 Hunting season is about to hit and wanted to share some pictures for people that have been asking “How do I skin out my animal to bring to you for a shoulder mount”
Best I could do to describe and show where to cut…
Shown is a Life Size Elk

1- mid belly/ back of ribs make a cut all the way around mid section. (Green Tape)

2- make a “Y” cut, facing knife towards the butt of animal away from the base of horn.

3- make a cut along the spine all the way to your belly cut. (Smooth cuts are way better than hacking away or using a serrated blade)

4- cut around right above knee

5.- from the back of cut 4, rear side of leg make a cut up leg along the back of leg. Once past the underarm of animal make cut straight back towards the belly cut.

6. “Skin” off hide on one side of animal up to base of head/ lowe jaw. then flip over and do steps 4& 5 again!

Long story Short look at the pictures cut where the tape is. Break the joint of the neck once skinned out on both sides and take to your taxidermist!
Remember dont get yiur hide too soaked in water ICE is cheep and will save your hide 🤘🏻💪🏻
Elk capes or any animal hides aren’t cheap anymore don’t screw them up!

Notice no cuts are in brisket area
Pics showing good and bad cuts to brisket area…

Hope this helps this will be a great way to cut capes for Shoulder or wall pedestal animals!

For half life size animals leave from leg on and move belly cut back towards hips 🤘🏻💪🏻
Thank you & Good Luck!!!
