Well...
Apparently Felicity isn't the only one keeping an eye on the calendar.
I'm at 94 days here at HSBC.
Which means I'm also getting awfully close to that dreaded triple-digit shelter stay.
I'd really rather not.

Don't get me wrong...
The people here are wonderful.

They bring me feather toys (my personal favorite), they take great care of me, and they tell me every day that my family is out there.

But...
I'm ready for my own place.
I've had a lot of roommates over the last three months.
Some have come.
Some have gone.
I've watched so many friends head home while I keep waving goodbye from the cat room.
Now I think it's my turn.
I'm ready for a family who knows that the best evenings involve a wand toy, a cozy couch, and a cat who quietly keeps you company.
A family to greet every morning.
A sunny window to call my own.
A feather toy that doesn't have to be shared.
(That last one is negotiable... probably.)

🖤🎃 An Update from Felicity 🎃🖤

Well...
I've been hearing a rumor.
Apparently July 5th is the official start of Halloween season.

Now, I know some people have some silly ideas about black cats and Halloween...
But around here?
We prefer to focus on the icons.
Salem.
Binx.
Jiji.

The luckiest decorations of all.
And now...
Me.

Sure, I know black cats have been unfairly associated with spooky season for a long time.
But honestly?
We think we're the best part of Halloween.

Elegant.
Mysterious.
Photogenic.
Excellent at dramatic entrances.

It's practically a lifestyle.
The only thing I'm missing is a forever home.

I'm now up to 93 days at HSBC, and I'd really love to find my family before I hit that dreaded triple-digit milestone.

Here's the thing...
I'm not one of those tiny, chaotic kittens anymore.
I'm an 8-month-old, a teenager if you will, which means I've figured out what really matters in life.

Treats.
More treats.
Head scratches.
A cozy bed.
Treats again.

Seriously... if you show up with snacks, we're probably going to become best friends.

So if celebrating Halloween a little early helps me find my people...

Every dog deserves a chance to learn what home feels like.

Right now, we're especially looking for foster families willing to open their homes to dogs who may have unknown or incomplete housetraining. Dogs whosimply haven't had the opportunity to learn, or we don't know their history yet.

The truth is, we can't fully evaluate a dog's housetraining in a shelter. A foster home gives them the chance to learn a routine, build confidence, and show us who they really are.

As a foster, you'll help us answer questions that adopters ask every day:
🐾 Are they house trained?
🐾 How do they do overnight?
🐾 What are they like in a home?
🐾 What kind of family will they thrive with?

That information can make all the difference in helping a dog find the right forever home.

Yes, there may be a few accidents along the way. But there will also be firsts:
❤️ The first peaceful nap on a couch.
❤️ The first time they ask to go outside.
❤️ The first time they truly relax because they know they're safe.

HSBC provides the support, and you provide the home. Together, we help dogs take the next step toward adoption.

First things first...

**Benny's adoption fee has been sponsored!** 💙

And the reason behind it makes us smile.

About a year and a half ago, a wonderful dog named Charlie Waffles found his forever family through HSBC. Now The Medicare Mutt with Charlie Waffles , , and Kim & Dan Sikorski, have decided it's Benny's turn.

Here's the message they shared:

Hi everyone… Charlie Waffles here!

A year and a half ago, I was lucky enough to find my forever family through the Humane Society of Barron County. My life changed forever the day Kim and Dan took me home.

Now it's my turn to help another friend.

Now let's talk about Benny.

This handsome 4-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix believes life is best enjoyed with a few simple ingredients:

💦 A kiddie pool to splash in.
🪢 A spirited game of tug
🦴 Plenty of snacks. (He has yet to meet one he doesn't approve of.)
❤️ His favorite people.

He's also reported to be housetrained, giving him a wonderful head start as he settles into a new home.

Benny is joyful, affectionate, and the kind of dog who throws his whole heart into everything he does. Whether he's making a splash, playing with a toy, or relaxing with his family after a fun day, he's simply happy to be part of it all.

💙🐾 Happy Gotcha Month, Hubie! 🐾💙

One month ago, Hubie packed up his little shelter suitcase and headed home. We recently received this wonderful update from his family, and it perfectly captures why we do what we do.

"Sometimes the right dog finds you exactly when you need them most."

Hubie has settled beautifully into family life. He's become the ultimate little shadow, following his people everywhere they go. Thanks to his daily walk routine, and a newfound love for fruits and veggies, he's already lost 5 pounds and is feeling better every day.

He's also been warmly welcomed by his canine sisters. He's become an expert at happy tail wags and making sure at least one of his humans is always within arm's reach.

And yes... he's still every bit the dachshund. If a car door is left open, don't be surprised to find him stretched out in the front seat, fully expecting someone to take him on an adventure. From what we hear, his persistence usually pays off. 🚗😂

These days, this sweet boy is embracing lake life, joining family walks, and even helping himself to fresh vegetables from the garden—a habit he proudly picked up from his sisters.

His family shared one final message that truly touched our hearts:

"To whoever loved Hubie before us, I hope you know he's incredibly loved, completely spoiled, and living the very best life we could ever give him. Thank you for giving us the chance to love this sweet boy."

Stories like Hubie's remind us that every adoption is a new beginning—not just for the animal, but for the family who welcomes them home.

Well...
I have officially crossed the two-month mark here at HSBC.
Two months.

Honestly, I figured someone would have scooped me up by now, but here we are.

The humans keep comparing me to a real-life marshmallow.

Sweet?
Absolutely.
A little fluffy?
Also absolutely.

It's a very flattering comparison, if you ask me.

And let's not overlook my signature features.
I've got my dramatic single eyebrow on my left side.....and my dashing dark streak on the other.

Some call it unique.
I call it fashion.

Now, I've also overheard the staff saying they "don't have favorites."
Officially.

Personally, I think that's just something they say to avoid hurting the feelings of my roommates.

Because every time they walk by, somehow I end up getting extra head scratches, a few compliments, and at least one person saying, "Oh, Miles..."
Coincidence?
I think not.

The truth is, I'm just an easy guy to love.

Give me a few treats, some head rubs, and a little of your attention, and I'll happily repay you with maximum-volume purrs and professional-level companionship.

I've spent two months making friends here.
Now I'm ready to make one family.

I've been thinking...
You humans sure come up with a lot of names.

Larry.
Lar-Bear.
Sir Larrington.
Larry Berry.
Larry the Great.
Lar-do...

Okay.
I'm not crazy about that last one.

But honestly?
You can call me whatever you want...
As long as you call me yours.💙

I've been looking for my forever family for 11 weeks now, and I really think I'm ready.

Actually, I know I'm ready.

I've been rocking foster care like a professional. I'm fully housetrained, I can be left home alone without any trouble, I love meeting new people, I get along great with other dogs, and I make myself right at home wherever I go.

The dog park?
Big fan.

Outdoor adventures?
Count me in.

Lounging around the house with my favorite people?
Now that's my specialty.

My foster family says I'm an excellent houseguest, but if I'm being honest...
I'd really like to retire from being a guest.
I'd like to be family.

I'm a 6-year-old Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix with lots of love left to give, and I'm just waiting for the day someone walks through the shelter doors, looks at me, and says...

"Come on, Larry. Let's go home."

🖤🧸 Meet Linus! 🧸🖤

If there's one thing the original Linus taught us, it's that everyone deserves a little comfort.

This handsome 12-week-old black kitten is hoping to find exactly that—a family, a cozy home, and someone who will show him that people can be pretty wonderful.

Right now, the shelter feels like a very big place for a very little kitten. Linus hasn't had many opportunities to build confidence around new people, so meeting strangers can be a little overwhelming.

But here's the encouraging news...
The shelter isn't forever.

Research has shown that kittens like Linus, who may seem shy around unfamiliar people in a shelter, often blossom once they're home. Given patience, kindness, and a little time, they learn that hands bring gentle pets, laps are warm, and people become their favorite part of the day. Adopters consistently report being just as happy with these kittens as they are with kittens who had more early socialization.

Linus isn't looking for someone perfect.
He's looking for someone patient.
Someone who will let him discover, one quiet day at a time, that home is the safest place of all.
We think he's going to write a pretty wonderful next chapter. 🖤🐾

Remember when I told you about discovering the human responsible for the magical home-finding machine?

You know...
The social media human.

The one I very strategically launched myself into the arms of because it seemed like a solid marketing decision.

Well...
I've expanded my strategy.
Today, I launched myself at the Animal Care Manager.
Now, before you think I've completely abandoned all common sense...
Let's review who this human is.

• The one with the needles. 💉
• The mysterious banana-flavored goo she insists is "medicine." 🍌
• The nail trimmers. ✂️

Every time I see her, something medically responsible seems to happen.
To be fair...
The nail trims usually come with extra cuddles.
Sometimes snacks.
So it's not a terrible arrangement.
Still...

She wasn't exactly the most obvious choice for a dramatic flying cuddle attack.
She looked surprised.
For about half a second.
Then she caught me.
(Excellent reflexes. Five stars.)

And that's when I realized something.
I don't actually care what your job is.
Social media?
Medicine?
Cleaning?
Reception?
Volunteer?

If you're kind to me...
You're automatically one of my favorite people.
I've decided everyone deserves the Lucas Experience™.

Needles are temporary.
Cuddles are forever.

📦💙 WISHLIST WEDNESDAY 💙📦

This week's wish list comes from a different group...
Not the cats. (They're still convinced wet food is the only thing that matters.)
Not the dogs. (They'd happily nominate treats every single week.)

This one comes from our caregivers, the amazing humans working behind the scenes every day to keep the shelter running.

They may not be as fluffy, as loud, or as dramatic as the animals, but we simply couldn't do this work without them. Every kennel cleaned, every meal prepared, every medication given, every exam performed, and every adoption made possible starts with having the right supplies on hand.

This week's most-needed items are:

🗑️ **Unscented 13-gallon trash bags *(URGENT!)*
🗑️ **Unscented 30–38 gallon trash bags *(URGENT!)*
🍽️ 2 lb paper food trays
🩺 Wooden cotton-tip applicators
🩹 Tongue depressors

These may not be the most exciting items on our wish list, but they're some of the hardest-working supplies in our shelter. They help our team care for dozens of animals every single day, and we go through them faster than you might imagine.

If you'd like to support the people caring for the animals you love, we'd be so grateful for your help. Donations can be dropped off at the shelter or shipped directly to us through our wish lists.
