Life celebrations are filled with special memories, and today brought an unforgettable surprise for Carrie Kazimour at her mother Penny Kazimour’s Life Celebration at The Quarry in Crystal Lake. Therapy horse Turnabout, aka Mr. Handsome, made a heartfelt appearance, bringing smiles, joy and comfort to family and friends (after Carrie’s shock wore off!). The presence of Turnabout reminded everyone (even lifeguards & friends!) of the healing power of animals and the love that continues to surround us even in times of loss. It was a touching tribute to the unconditional love that speaks straight to our SOULs.

The American flag and the flags of every branch of the military flew proudly at SOUL Harbour Ranch today as we were honored to host our Veterans BBQ for veterans, active-duty military members, and their families. The day was filled with heartfelt camaraderie, delicious food, meaningful conversations, and special visits with our therapy animals. We shared a touching moment of silence in memory of Bob Lick, as his daughter Laura spoke about his remarkable service as a B-24 waist gunner in the World War II Army Air Forces. We were also thrilled to celebrate our volunteer and friend, Gina Stramaglio, who will soon be promoted to Colonel in the U.S. Air Force. Each veteran received a SOUL Challenge Coin as a small token of our gratitude and appreciation for their service and sacrifice. It was especially wonderful to welcome many new veterans to the ranch, and hearing one guest say, “You made my year,” reminded us why these gatherings are so meaningful. Thank you to all who have served and continue to serve our country—we are forever grateful. 🇺🇸❤️🐴🐾

HERO Update! Our 2025 “Puppy with a Purpose” HERO, made possible by a grant from 100 Women Who Care N.W. Suburban Chicago, is making great strides towards becoming a registered therapy dog. Our volunteers & registered handlers Cam and her mom Vicki Molbeck have done an incredible job bringing him along. Hero is also learning from his sister Izzy, who just retired as a SOUL therapy dog.
Our summer therapy dog training is also made possible from the same 100 Women Who Care Grant. Our fabulous trainer Lu Anne Smith helps well mannered dogs to achieve that next level of becoming a therapy team with us.

What a beautiful day at SOUL Harbour Ranch with families from WINGS (Women in Need Growing Stronger)! The families spent the day soaking up sunshine and making unforgettable memories with our therapy dogs Banjo, Beau & Megan, mini horses Sunshine, Faith & Turnabout, mini donkeys Bugsy & Prancer, and mini pigs Peaches and Pickles. There were plenty of hugs, smiles, pets, and walks as everyone enjoyed their unconditional love. The fun continued as participants colored pages of our animals, made hobby horses and jumped through our Hobby Horse course with before gathering together to enjoy pizza on a gorgeous sunny afternoon. Days like these remind us of the healing power of animals ❤️🐴🐷🐶☀️WINGS Program, Inc.
