“The only thing that spreads faster than any virus is fear.” - Pitbull
Today, while out walking dogs, I had a conversation with a gentleman who was considering getting a dog but admitted he was afraid of certain breeds because of what he’d seen on TV and heard over the years.
We talked about how dogs aren’t defined by their breed, but by their experiences, training, environment, and the people who care for them. Some of the sweetest dogs we’ve cared for have been breeds that are often misunderstood, while some of the biggest challenges can come from dogs people assume are always easy.
I also shared that not everyone needs a puppy. An older shelter dog can make an incredible companion and is often just looking for a second chance.
By the end of our conversation, he thanked me and said he felt much less afraid of dog ownership. It was a reminder that education, patience, and understanding can go a long way in replacing fear with compassion.
Every dog deserves to be judged as an individual, not by a stereotype. ❤️🐾
