Black pearls opening up! Did you know that black pearls are actually a hybrid of blue oysters and king trumpets? This was first done by inoculating a shared substrate with the two mushroom myceliums at the same time. When it comes to fusion attempts, if the two varieties aren't related closely enough, they'll end up rejecting each other. Fortunately for black pearls, trumpets and oysters share the same genus so their fusion was a success. They almost look like they're transforming from trumpets to oysters between these pics 👀
