✈️🐾 Before the international health-certificate appointment, get your pet’s records in order.

Recent international pet-travel consultations have made one thing very clear: missing or inconsistent information can delay the process—or change a pet’s eligibility and travel timeline.

Before meeting with your veterinarian, gather:

✅ All rabies vaccination certificates
✅ Microchip records
✅ Previous veterinary records

Compare your pet’s date of birth, breed, color and microchip number across every document. Your veterinarian may also need to confirm rabies-vaccination continuity and establish that the microchip was implanted or verified before the qualifying rabies vaccination.

If information is missing or inconsistent, the pet owner may need to contact previous veterinary hospitals, microchip companies, shelters, breeders or other record issuers to obtain documentation or resolve discrepancies. Your current veterinarian may not be able to correct records created by another provider.

Do not wait for your veterinarian to request these records. Finding discrepancies early gives you time to resolve them before the veterinary team completes and submits the international health certificate.

Not every destination requires USDA endorsement, but complete and consistent records still help your veterinarian accurately prepare the required documentation.
