This page is dedicated to the pets in need of the Athens area and our surrounding communities. We work closely with Animal Control Shelters in our area to rescue animals and save lives. We are a private non-profit and therefore receive no government or national funding. We rely solely on private donations from individuals, businesses, and groups. We also have a Spay & Neuter Clinic where we offer

low-cost surgeries to the public and rescue groups. This affordable service helps people save more lives by spaying and neutering their pets. Our posts will include photos of adoptable animals, adoption photos, events, fundraisers, and news regarding our organization. Please feel free to leave positive comments and feedback. Meet Maxalicious, our regal 6-year-old gentleman who lives for high-class comfort and impeccable manners (sometimes LOL). In a past life, we’re pretty sure he was royalty… or at least he’s convinced himself of that! He dreams of a home filled with the coziest blankets, premium feasts, and a human staff fully dedicated to his happiness.

Sir Maxalicious insists that all attention be directed toward him at all times, and honestly, with his charm, it’s impossible not to adore him. He is sweet, sophisticated, and ready to rule your heart.

She’s a pro at “sit,” will do just about anything for a treat, and loves greeting every new friend like they’ve known each other for years. Martini is always ready for adventure and has experience with other dogs, making her a wonderful companion for an active family or social pup household.

Meet CatGPT, our one-year-old fluffy heartthrob with a coat so soft it really should come with a warning label. At first, he may seem a little shy, but give him a moment… and suddenly he’s buffering into full affection mode with purrs louder than your laptop fan. He loves pets, chin scratches, and will absolutely activate “biscuit-maker.exe” the second you give him a cozy blanket.

And don’t even get us started on that fur. It’s so soft, we’re pretty sure he’s been optimized for maximum cuddles by some higher feline intelligence. This sweet, gentle boy is ready to upload himself straight into your heart. 🧡

Another foster shout out to our sweet Cassie! She is such a sweet and loving girl! Though she starts off a bit shy, it doesn’t take long for her gentle heart to shine through. Once Cassie settles in, this sweet girl will follow you around the house, nudging for pets and affection. With 100% sass and a whole lot of tortitude, Sarah is absolutely convinced she runs the show around here... and honestly, we’re not arguing. This gorgeous tortie queen has perfected the art of the dramatic head turn, the slow blink of disapproval, and the demanding paw tap for attention.

Sarah adores butt scritches (thanks to a little flea allergy) and insists on being pampered precisely when she wants it... which, in her opinion, is always. Just don’t try to pick her up unless you’ve been given royal permission! 💅

🎁 Holiday Food Drive 🎁

This season, we’re extending our care beyond our furry friends and into the hearts of the people who love them. Though the government shutdown has been lifted, many families in our community are still struggling after losing SNAP benefits, and we want to help. Not only do we care about feeding the hungry pets in our community, but we also want to support the people who feed them by making sure they have the resources they need.

From now through December 22nd, AAHS will serve as a drop-off location for a community food and essentials drive. All donations will be delivered to our friends at Meals on Wheels for distribution.

🛒 Items needed: pasta sauces, jelly, seasonings, canned fruits/fruit cups, mac and cheese, ramen, flavored rice and pasta packets, canned goods, soups, juices (like V8, Ensure, and apple juice), tea bags, toilet paper, paper towels, cleaning supplies, wipes, laundry detergent, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.

All food items must be unopened. ☝

Donations can be dropped off anytime during our open hours at 1030 Mitchell Bridge Rd, Wednesday–Monday, 9AM–6PM.

Thank you for helping us support BOTH pets and their people this holiday season. 🐾
