This page is dedicated to the pets in need of the Athens area and our surrounding communities. We work closely with Animal Control Shelters in our area to rescue animals and save lives. We are a private non-profit and therefore receive no government or national funding. We rely solely on private donations from individuals, businesses, and groups. We also have a Spay & Neuter Clinic where we offer

low-cost surgeries to the public and rescue groups. This affordable service helps people save more lives by spaying and neutering their pets. Our posts will include photos of adoptable animals, adoption photos, events, fundraisers, and news regarding our organization. Please feel free to leave positive comments and feedback. Our rockstar adoption team needs your help! Kitten season is still going strong, and our shelter is in urgent need of wet kitten food and adult cat kibble to support the dozens of kittens currently in foster care with more arriving every week from our high-risk shelter partners. We accept all brands of wet kitten food, and there are donation options starting at just $3 on our Amazon wishlist!

More of a dog person? Our canine crew is in need too! We’re looking for unsalted chicken broth and pumpkin purée to help make their meals extra special and create frozen enrichment treats for these hot summer days. These simple additions keep our pups cool, busy, and happy! 🐾

Say hello to Chanel, our sweetest little wrinkle queen in need of a helping paw! This 3-year-old Shar-Pei mix is as gentle and darling as they come—but right now, she urgently needs a foster home to help her through her heartworm treatment. Her treatment period will last around 6–8 weeks, and we’re looking for a calm, cozy place where she can rest and heal. These snuggly little jedis spend their days tag-teaming nap time, spring toy missions, and snack raids. Meet Cheyenne, our resilient four-year-old retired mama who’s finally discovering the love and care she’s always deserved. Before arriving at AAHS, Cheyenne spent her entire life outdoors without proper care, vaccinations, or the gentle touch of a kind hand—but through it all, she never gave up.

Since arriving, Cheyenne has blossomed into a wiggly, tail-wagging, full-on dancing queen! She can be a little shy when meeting new people, but give her a few treats and some gentle encouragement, and she transforms into the most affectionate, happy-go-lucky girl you’ll ever meet. She’s still learning the ropes, but she loves her walks and is excited to explore this whole new world that’s finally opening up to her.

And the best part? Cheyenne’s adoption is 100% SPONSORED! That’s right—this sweet girl can waltz into your life for free. We’ve got an exciting update for those who utilize our pet pantry! To better serve our community and keep up with demand, our Full Bellies Food Bowl Program will now operate twice a month—on the first and third Saturdays from 9AM to 1PM.

That means we’ll no longer distribute pet food during the week at our shelter, but you can count on us during these Saturday mornings to provide the food and resources your furry family members need. ❤️

Straight from the realms of Norse mythology (or maybe just the local shelter), meet Thor and Baldur—two mighty feline warriors ready to conquer your heart! These brothers in fluff may not wield hammers or start epic boss battles, but they do demand tributes of treats and head scritches from their Midgardian subjects. With their commanding presence and cozy purrs, they’re more about snuggles than skirmishes, and they’re searching for a home worthy of Asgard.

Thor is the bolder of the two, always on patrol and keeping watch like a true protector of realms, while Baldur is the quieter soul with a gaze that could humble even the fiercest of gods (but not Kratos iykyk 😉). Though they arrived with mythic names and even bigger personalities, they’re just two lovable guys hoping for a comfy castle (or couch) to call their own.

Summer Heat is No Joke—Protect Your Pets! Next week, temps in Athens are soaring above 95°, and with the Fourth of July around the corner, it’s more important than ever to take serious precautions for your pets—both indoors and outdoors.

🔥 Hot Asphalt = Hot Paws
Use the 7-second test: if you can't hold your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds, it's too hot for your pet’s paws!

💧 Hydration is Everything
Whether you’re out for a walk, taking a road trip, or caring for community cats—fresh water is a must. Keep bowls in the shade, add ice cubes, or invest in a pet fountain to encourage more drinking.

🚗 NEVER Leave Pets in a Car
Even with the windows cracked or the AC running, the risk just isn’t worth it. Heatstroke can happen fast.

🐱 Community Cats & Outdoor Pets
Provide shaded shelter, safe food and water stations, and be extra mindful during TNR—hot surfaces and traps can cause burns or heatstroke.

🏠 Indoor Enrichment Matters
For high-energy pets, lean into frozen Kongs, treat puzzles, and indoor playtime to keep them mentally stimulated and safe from the heat.
