🐾✨ Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Acupuncture! ✨🐾

Acupuncture is an ancient practice with a fascinating history—and it’s still being used today as a complementary therapy for a variety of conditions. Here are a few things you may not know:

🌿 1. Acupuncture is over 2,000 years old!
Acupuncture has been practiced for more than 2,000 years, with its techniques and applications evolving throughout history.

🌿 2. It can be used for many different conditions.
Acupuncture may be incorporated into treatment plans for things such as pain management and arthritis, kidney disease, seizures, gastrointestinal issues, skin conditions, and much more.

🌿 3. Needles have come a LONG way!
Today, we use sterile, modern acupuncture needles. Historically, however, practitioners used a variety of materials, including stone, bone, bamboo, bronze, and even gold.

🌿 4. Your body can respond in some pretty amazing ways.
Acupuncture can stimulate the release of beta-endorphins, which may contribute to pain relief along with other physiological changes that can support the body’s healing processes. ❤️

🌿 5. Dry needling isn’t the only type of acupuncture!
There are several techniques used in modern acupuncture, including:

💉 Dry acupuncture – using acupuncture needles at specific points
🩸 Hemoacupuncture – using a small amount of the patient’s own blood at specific acupuncture points
💧 Aqua-acupuncture – injecting a small amount of sterile saline or vitamin B-12 at selected points
💨 Pneumoacupuncture – using a small amount of air at specific acupuncture points
🔥 Moxibustion – using heated herbal sticks near acupuncture points

Acupuncture is an interesting blend of ancient tradition and modern therapeutic practice. 🌿💚

Did you know all of these different techniques existed? Let us know in the comments! 👇

Acupuncture should be performed by a properly trained professional and used as part of an appropriate treatment plan.

Meet the Staff Monday!

Dr. Tasha is a veterinarian and has been the proud owner of Pondview Veterinary Clinic since 2018. She enjoys caring for pets and building lasting relationships with the families who love them. She completed her undergraduate education at the University of Findlay before earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She remains a proud Buckeye and a big Ohio State fan!

Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Tasha stays busy with her three children and their own collection of animals, including dogs, cats, guinea pigs, and an axolotl. When she’s not at the clinic, she loves spending time with her kids and being outdoors. Together, they enjoy camping, riding four-wheelers, swimming, and attending and participating in sports.

As both a veterinarian and a pet owner, Dr. Tasha understands firsthand that pets are an important part of the family.
