This week we started off our first Youth Leaders Program with Peaches as our facilitator for the week!

On Monday, the kids made keychains with pipe cleaners and beads. On Thursday, the kids made slime and filled our greenhouse space with laughter, entertainment, and joy.

The kids loved their projects, had fun making many batches of slime, and had an opportunity to use a welcoming space to hang out with their friends and make new connections. These programs are designed for our kids to have meaningful and engaging curriculum and activities afterschool. We want to continue to empower them and provide them with the resources they need to be successful. We would love to invite educators, community, and perspective into our space and continue to have an impact on our youth.

For these programs to continue to be successful, we would love to have you or someone you know come volunteer with us and be part of this growing community.
As well as volunteers, we would also love to provide meals for the kids and host enriching cooking programs. If you know anyone who would love to sponsor a meal for our programs, or anyone who is interested in joining us, please reach out to [email protected].

We are looking forward to the success of these programs and all are welcome to join! We can’t wait to see how these programs take shape in and outside of the greenhouse.

New Village Academy students deliver!! Seven students are coming to the Eastport Community Farm every Wednesday for the next two months to build their skills and serve the community. We had our second session this week.

Big thanks to Bread and Butter Kitchen for the delicious breakfast sandwiches to fuel our day.

We were also joined by Peter Papa of Unity Electric who took the time to share about his trade with the students who are considering a career in electrical. Let’s get to work!

Kyle Wimbish of Wimbish Masonry Incorporated also took a few minutes to discuss his trade with the team. Kyle’s been a supporter of our mission since the start of the farm. He dropped off his vibrating tamper so we could put the finishing touches on the floor. Thank you Kyle!!

We are proud to support the real world learning projects of New Village Academy and these young people are doing great work!!

We are excited to kick off our youth engagement program! We are excited to host people who want to teach, facilitate, and use the greenhouse space to engage our youth. Joy Grows is excited to invite Peaches to join us next Monday and Thursday from 3-5pm.

Our team has been working hard to get the Eastport Community Farm's greenhouse ready for winter use. We want to thank Chaney Enterprises for the materials, Robert Hector III branch manger of United Rentals Annapolis for the machines and Wimbish Masonry for their constant expert guidance and the tamper. With these three companies' support, our team added 40 yards of sand to the downhill end of the greenhouse to bring the slope within ADA standards. The next step is adding a layer of compacted gravel for a durable finished surface.

With this solid foundation, our greenhouse will reach its maximum potential as a space for community empowerment and delicious food production.

Joy Grows mission is to build community skills through farm to table programs that combat food food insecurity.
