Beautiful day yesterday! Trimmed up the crabapple tree and the bunnies were happy to get the branches. Koda and Ace got some outdoor time. Grayson got to go on a walk with Stella when she visited- good times 😊

Rainy and 45° but bunnies are covered up and the ducks love the spring rain -the chickens don’t seem to mind it either, and Peter still came up to supervise😎 Malibu’s babies are 4 weeks old now.

I took some cute pictures this morning of the animals. Later, from the window I saw a few ducks splashing in the pool in the yard, because some can fly out of the enclosure. Then around 11:45 AM as we were heading to church for Good Friday services, we saw the fox run into the woods with a duck!! 😱😱😱 we could not stop him-and sadly, it got Kesha😭😭. Kesha was born last September and all three duck moms doted on her. She was our only solid brown hen, and previously she escaped to the mink, but she could not escape the fox. 🦊 ugh. I’m sure the fox needed to feed its babies, but we are just so sad that one of our ducks had to be food🥺😫 RIP Kesha 9/2024- 4/2025

Malibu’s babies are 3 weeks old- mama is doing a good job of keeping them in the nest box, but she won’t be able to keep this up forever🤣 beautiful sunrise, and the magnolia is starting to bloom🩷

Malibu’s babies are two weeks old now, and all of their eyes are open. I had to put them in a carrier to take their picture because they are crazy and just hopping everywhere so it’s not the best picture but they are contained.😆

Baby bunnies are 2 weeks old and snuggled in the nestbox. I will try to get pictures of them later this weekend. Another chilly morning- waiting for a nice spring warm up

And then there were 7 😞 RIP Kendrick
August 2024- March 2025
Here are eight pictures one from each month of his life. He was a nice boy.
He was the cutest little duckling that grew into a huge drake that his father did not really want around. Kanye doesn’t even let him in the coop, unless we force him too. So yesterday Kendrick was left outside, but inside the enclosure, and it looks like a fox scaled the fence and killed him😩
later that night you can see a great horned owl and the fox running around the chicken yard. Ugh. I guess we need to beef up security. Predators have babies to feed and are getting bold. I just want them to eat the hundreds of nameless squirrels, not our 15 birds😞

A cold, icy, snowy start to the day. Malibus babies are all tucked safe inside their nest box, the birds are dealing with the weather, and Peter is still supervising me, feeding the bunnies and switching out their water bottles😄

Checked the bunnies this morning and Cali is no longer a mother 😞 maybe we should have just given her babies to Malibu this time… but she’s been a good mom before, I think she’ll get another chance or two before we count her out. Kanye really doesn’t like his son Kendrick around. Might add more girl ducks to the flock next week- maybe that will help. Weather is going to be colder today and tomorrow… hunker down time.

Down to 9 babies now. Cali squished/stomped one of her 4 last night. Poor guy was flat as a pancake🙁
This morning her 3 remaining babies were doing well and Malibu is taking care of her 6 babies just fine(so far)

10 new babies born this morning! Elena bred the Californian does to the Silver Fox boys and so these are mixed breed babies. Cali had 4 and her daughter Malibu had 6. Welcome little ones 🩷Springtime bunnies 🌸🌼🌿

RIP Jessi the duck. 2020-2025
Elena bought 4 Muscovy hens in December 2020. They were all a few months old and we named them Lizzo, Macy Gray, Iggy Azalea and Jessi. Out of those four only Iggy’s left. It looks like Jesse flew out of the chicken yard yesterday with Kesha and while they were out exploring the fox grabbed her.😩 Our neighbor messaged me that they saw the fox running through their yard with a light colored duck in their mouth- and when I got home, Jesse was gone🥺. Elena might be looking for some unrelated Muscovy hens this spring. Only Iggy is not related to Kanye, her drake, at this point.😂🙄🫣 #

Kanye looks like a black and white duck, but if you catch his feathers in the sunlight-he’s a beautiful iridescent green 💚 He is easily the biggest duck here- really massive in person. The smallest is Mally, I don’t know if he is a small 🦆 mallard, or a hybrid- but he’s about a year old now and just barely getting his green head. You don’t even notice it unless you catch them in the sunlight it will be interesting to see if it becomes fully green over the summer. Plus some pictures of rabbits because they are cute. 🥹😀😊

Elena is out of town so I am taking care of the animals and going in the rabbit room, so here are a few pictures. Normally she’s the only one going in the rabbit room and taking care of them , and she doesn’t take pictures. lol 😆 so here’s my chance! Sadly, Atticus doesn’t look that great. He’s getting lumps and growths and old age is setting in. In the meantime, he’s eating and drinking. It seems to be doing fine, but his body is saying another story…..

First day of spring was 30° AM but 50° forecasted for this afternoon ☀️ so far the new rooster is working out great and the rabbits seem to be back to normal. They all got a little lettuce this morning and maybe next Tuesday we will have some babies in the nest boxes out there😃
