Since 1952, Haven Humane Society has cared for lost, homeless, and abused animals in the Redding area.

Over the years, Haven Humane Society's services have expanded to include a spay/neuter hospital and Morgan Adoption Center as well as community outreach and education to help make animal abuse and neglect a thing of the past. Community Guidelines:

❗ Medical Fosters Needed ❗

Luna and Odessa came to us in July from a hoarding situation where they weren’t kept in the best of care. Despite this tough start, they’re sweet, affectionate girls who deserve comfort and love. 💕

Now they face another challenge. Both are heartworm positive, and treatment is a long process requiring months of strict rest: no running, playtime, or excitement. In the shelter, this means long days stuck in their kennels.

That’s why we’re looking for special medical fosters. These girls need a calm, quiet home where they can rest and recover until they find their forever families. 🏡

🐾 Meet the girls:

Luna (4 yrs, pitbull mix): Luna loves cuddles and tearing up toys. She’s full of kindness and playfulness, and enjoys other dogs, but may do best in a home without another dog or with a dog who’s okay with no playing during her treatment.

Odessa (2 yrs, dachshund/chihuahua mix): Odessa is shy in the shelter but loves sitting in your lap and napping. In a quiet home she may be playful and bouncy, but for now needs a calm, low-energy environment where she can feel safe.

They’ll be ready for foster next week, and we’d love to have homes lined up so they can step straight out of the kennel and into comfort.

❤ Professional People-Pleaser Seeking Full-Time Family ❤

Looking for a dog who’s equal parts goofy and sweet? Meet our Pet of the Week, Elsie! This 2-year-old pitbull mix weighs about 70 lbs and has never met a stranger- everyone she meets instantly becomes her friend. 💕

Elsie had the best time visiting the radio shows today, happily chewing on her rope toy… until she realized no one was petting her (priorities!). She loves attention most of all, but toys, treats, and a good set of zoomies come in a close second.

She’s a smart girl who’s working on her leash skills and catching on quickly. She sits well for treats, too! If you already have a dog at home, you can make an appointment to bring them by to see if they click with Elsie!

She’s ready for a family that will spoil her with love and enjoy her silly, affectionate personality. 🐾

🐾 Tongue Out Tuesday featuring Leonard! 🐶💙

Leonard is a 7-month-old Cane Corso mix who already weighs 77 lbs, and he’s still got plenty of growing to do! With his beautiful droopy face, big webbed paws, and a nubby little tail that wags with pure happiness, he’s impossible not to adore.

He moves like a newborn baby elephant, clumsy and absolutely precious! 🐘❤️ Leonard has met a few dogs here at Haven and has done great making new friends.

Leonard’s forever family needs to be prepared to welcome a large dog- Cane Corsos are big dogs with big hearts! He’s still a puppy and will need patient, consistent training to learn his basic manners, too.

Bring your neighborhood feral cat to our Veterinary Hospital Thursday morning for Feral Fiesta Day! We will spay or neuter up to 50 cats.

Volunteer Spotlight: Amber Bidwell

Meet Amber, a dedicated Haven Humane volunteer who’s been part of our family for the past four years! Her journey began when she and her son visited to adopt a cat after losing their own. They fell in love with a cat named Saturn—and as they left that day, her son said, “We should volunteer here.” So, they did.

Amber primarily volunteers in our Kitten Nursery, where she helps care for some of the most fragile animals in our care. Her typical day includes cleaning, bottle feeding, and giving each kitten as much love as possible. “It’s like therapy,” she says. “I adore them.”

At home, Amber is a proud cat mom to two Haven alums—Saturn and Lena. She carries a notebook in her purse filled with potential kitten names, with Binx and Luna among her favorites. Watching the animals grow strong and find forever homes is what keeps her coming back. “There have been kittens we didn’t think would make it, but they pulled through and got adopted. That’s the best part.”

Outside of Haven, Amber works as a medical biller, a position she’s held for over 11 years. She enjoys crocheting, sewing, kayaking, and spending time with her family—and dreams of one day opening her own animal sanctuary!

We’re so grateful to have Amber as part of the Haven Humane family. Her kindness, consistency, and compassion are a true gift to the animals—and to all of us.

270+ Packs of Wipes Donated to Our Kitten Nursery! 🐱

We are so grateful for our community’s generosity. Our Kitten Nursery has received over 270 packs of wipes!

These wipes help our staff care for orphaned kittens like Eclipse and Belle by keeping them clean and helping them go to the bathroom, just like a mother cat would. This is a vital part of their daily care!

Your support helps these little ones stay healthy, comfortable, and happy. Thank you for making such a big difference in their lives. 💖
