Since 1952, Haven Humane Society has cared for lost, homeless, and abused animals in the Redding area.

Over the years, Haven Humane Society's services have expanded to include a spay/neuter hospital and Morgan Adoption Center as well as community outreach and education to help make animal abuse and neglect a thing of the past. Community Guidelines:

Back At The Shelter, But Still Hoping For A Family To Call Her Own ❤️

Parker is a ten-month-old pittie puppy who has spent about 2/3 of her life in the shelter. This sweet girl was adopted awhile ago, but was recently returned when she turned out to be a little too much puppy for her older owner.

Parker is a good girl—she just needs a home that’s willing and able to help her learn the basic puppy manners she missed out on while growing up in the shelter. She is bouncy and happy, but that can be too much if you’re not prepared for it.

Parker’s adoption fee is just $25, and she deserves the chance to spend the rest of her puppyhood in a loving home, not a kennel.

Burney Dog Vaccine & Licensing Clinic Is Next Tuesday!
Haven Humane Society will be hosting a vaccine and licensing clinic for dogs only at the Shasta County Sheriff's Office Burney Station next Tuesday, June 9th, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
The clinic is expanding to also offer low-cost annual vaccines for dogs, as well as flea/tick & heartworm preventatives.
Services will be available while supplies last, and the clinic must wrap up promptly at 4:00 PM.

Our Pet of the Week Should've Applied To Play Grogu in the New Star Wars Movie

Herschel, our Pet of the Week, is a 3-year-old, 70 lb velvet hippo (pittie mix, but without the stereotypes). He enjoys the simple things in life: getting belly rubs, destroying toys, and chowing down on grass like he was a lawn mower in his past life. His little ears are often tucked behind his head, only perking up for the most exciting things (like squeaky toys).

He’s a regular at our PetSmart Adoption Kiosk, where he spends the day politely lying in his crate, happy to greet new people, even happier to take a snooze.

He joined in on the Doggy Playgroup fun for the first time ever this week and made a new friend, Cleo! In public or when out on walks, he’s impressively unbothered by other dogs, even when they're screaming at him, "HERSCHEL, LET'S PLAY!!!"

On leash, Herschel starts off pulling like a freight train, but once he's had some yard time, he settles into a much more civilized stroll. You'll just need to make sure you can handle allllll of this big boy! Despite this, he is relatively well-mannered, rarely jumping on us and sits nicely for his treats.

He’s looking for older kids who understand personal space and consent because too much touching and hugging can drive anyone a little insane. We're unsure of how he does with cats.

He’s at PetSmart until 3:30 today, but if he’s still single by then (how could he be), he’ll be making an appearance at our Grange Co-op event tomorrow 10 AM to 2 PM, continuing his career as a very good boy in search of a permanent fan club!

Update: Compound has been ADOPTED!

Whenever we need a dog for a community outing, Compound gets nominated immediately, mostly because he has never once met a human being and thought, “No thanks, please don't pet me.” Last week at a local school, this giant 5-year-old German Shepherd/Dutch Shepherd mix calmly sat through not only an entire school assembly, but a steady stream of children all patting his head as they strolled by afterwards.

Which is exactly why we cannot believe he’s still here! Once you meet him, you immediately fall in love. He does, however, have a few non-negotiables. Compound is looking for a home without cats or unneutered male dogs (he’s very passionate about spay and neuter).

His adoption fee is just $25 (the price per pound is criminally low). Meet him at our Morgan Adoption Center or call (530) 241-1653 to make an appointment!
