Don’t forget to include your pet in your emergency plans. June is National Pet Preparedness Month. This is the time to consider things like placing stickers on windows so emergency services know how many pets are in your home in case of a fire, having a plan for what to do with your pets in the event of an earthquake or if you had to evacuate your home for any reason. You can check out ready.gov/pets for more information on pet preparedness.

While World Food Safety Day (this Sunday, June 7th) is about protecting the human food supply and preventing illness, it is a good time to think about your pets food safety as well. The FDA had a website dedicated to safety and food-treat related recalls for pets. For January through May, there were 6 FDA recalls for pet products for things such as low vitamin B1, issues with vitamin D, and contamination risk for Salmonella (which can affect the humans handling the food too!)
