!! Update !!
The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) has updated the Canine Vaccination Guidelines. Leptospirosis is now recommended as a CORE vaccine (along with Rabies and Distemper/Parvo) regardless of where your dog lives, its breed type, or its lifestyle.
Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection that dogs can get from standing water and flooding, and can occur in urban and non-urban areas. The infection is potentially fatal, causing kidney and liver failure, AND is zoonotic, meaning it can be passed on to people.
The bacteria survives best in tropical and subtropical climates, however we have documented Leptospirosis here in Alaska (dogs, bears, foxes, rodents).
The vaccination can be given to puppies as early as 12 weeks, and is a yearly vaccination for adults.
Call/Text/Email if you have questions about the Leptospirosis vaccine, or if you would like to schedule a vaccination update for your pup!
