If you are planning *INTERNATIONAL* travel, it is never too early, but is often much much too late!!
Many countries have requirements which need satisfying weeks or even months prior to travel.
If you're considering international travel, please email us (or your regular vet) as early in the process as possible.
(How do we know? Because we just told another family today they cannot meet their planned departure date, because they waited too long to start the process. -- Don't let this be you!)

Mexico Travelers -- New Requirements as of August 03 2026:
-- Screwworm Inspection Certificate now also required for US dogs traveling *TO* Mexico (previously only required dogs returning *from* Mexico). -- Cats are exempt.

Oh, Canada!
We get a LOT of questions about driving through Canada: Do I -- or do I not -- need a health certificate?
The answer is: .... It depends.
Some of the things which can affect the answer:
- age of your pets
- number of pets traveling
- purpose of traveling (holiday or dog-show, for example, is noncommercial vs commercial)
- are you the owner of the pets or transporting them for someone else
and maybe most importantly:
- the border agent on-duty the day you cross the border (I've heard more variations on "the rules" than I can count! Are you geared up to argue with a border official if you think they're wrong?)

Because we continue to hear that pet-owners are being asked to provide a health certificate, we are continuing to recommend travelers have a health certificate.

We do get the occasional Puerto Rico-bound travelers, so please note their requirements differ a bit from other US states & territories (mostly: microchip or metal ID tag; Rabies within *past 6 months* and parasite treatment administered by veterinarian & documented on health certificate **WITHIN 72 HOURS** of travel!!).

International Travelers: Please consult your airlines for **their own requirements** for travel both *TO* and *FROM* the US!! -- Per this notice, Lufthansa Airlines is only booking pets for US-reEntry at the following airports: Atlanta, LAX, Miami, JFK, Philadelphia & Washington DC:

Mexico travel for Pet Dogs -- Update: 10 June 2026:
Great news! This morning USDA announced pet dogs from US *CAN* travel to Mexico, pending ongoing negotiations about screwworm disease! Stay tuned for updates & monitor the USDA Pet Travel Website!!

Breaking news: EU Pet Passports *NO LONGER VALID* unless primary residence is in the EU!
If you hold an EU Pet Passport for your pet, but your primary residence is not in the EU, you are now required to have a USDA-endorsed International Health Certificate to enter the EU, as of April 2026.
Be sure to allow enough time for your EU travel plan and documents!
