It's black fly season! As much as we all look forward to the warmer months, it has its share of nuisances. As bad as these bites look, they typically resolve without treatment in a few days, and don't transmit disease the way ticks can. Here are some key differences between tick bites and black fly bites:
Ticks don’t feed in swarms, but black flies do. You may notice multiple fly bites on your dog, as opposed to one tick bite.
Black flies can land and feed on a dog within seconds. A tick must attach itself to the dog to draw blood, and this can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours.
As always, if you have any concerns, please contact us. Anything can become an infection if your furry friend excessively licks and/or bites at their skin.
