☀️ Summer in Texas can be dangerous for our four-legged family members. Especially thick coated dogs and dogs with short noses. Here are a few simple ways to keep your pet safe during the hottest months:
🐶 Walk early or late. Avoid midday heat when temperatures and pavement are at their hottest.
🐾 Check the pavement. If it’s too hot for the back of your hand, it’s too hot for your pet’s paws. Watch for red, burned paws, especially on concrete!
💧 Keep fresh water available. Hydration is essential whether your pet is indoors or outside.
🌳 Provide shade and never leave pets in parked cars. Even with the windows cracked, temperatures inside a vehicle can become life-threatening within minutes.
🌡️ Know the signs of heatstroke: Excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, bright red gums, or collapse. If you notice these signs, move your pet to a cool area, offer small amounts of water, and seek veterinary care immediately.
