For many reasons we have not been posting the last few weeks but it time to share again and what a better way to do it than wish this scallywag a Happy Birthday

The attitude Pants exhibited six years about an hour into this world has served him well...despite being stolen, neglected to the point of abuse, and the subject of lengthy legal proceedings- he is brave, kind and so wanting to please (and thank you Hannah Pandiscio, Jamie Tennyson, and Sue Berrill for putting him back together)

(It is also the perfect snip!)

Tamarack Hill Farm

Another piece of the gigantic jigsaw puzzle that anyone who jumps ought to know has to do with how distances between jumps are NORMALLY calculated.

Don't sweat about whether or not these distances are literally true, because they are used, USUALLY, by course designers, as a guideline---

1. The horse takes off SIX feet in front of the jump.
2. The horse lands SIX feet after the jump.
3. Each stride in the line will be TWELVE feet.

Take a tape measure and a roll of duct tape, and every three feet down the edge of your barn aisle, put a small strip of tape. Every time you walk down that aisle, make yourself go from tape to tape to tape, until you KNOW what YOUR 3 foot stride feels like.

So now you are standing with your backside up against a jump, facing another jump somewhere beyond you,

Now take two strides. That will be six feet, where you land.

Now start walking, 1-2-3-ONE. That's one 12 foot stride. Now 1-2-3-TWO. You have taken two strides. If you are close to the jump, from where the horse will take off, take two strides, (6 feet) and you should be right up against the jump, if the distance is a "perfect" 36 feet. 6+12+12+6=36.

If this confuses you, go out with someone who is not confused and practice until you grasp this.

If you do not learn this stuff, you will forever be a hopeless little beginner, having to be hand held by someone who took the time to learn it. Is that what you want? To remain a hopeless little beginner????????????

LEARN THIS STUFF

So here is some news that will cause confusion and some anger... going to be worse to understand then the DOT regulations and trucking your horses (repost from Mary Barrett) Way to go New Jersey! Just read those Animal Rights blogs and lies, push your local government to enforce your feelings and emotions that have zero background in reason or education and never ever read the entire proposed bill you're pushing! You brilliant bastards! "Nosey's Law" was passed and enacted. All over social media was the bare basic memes and tear-jerking innuendo of one elephant animal rights groups felt was abused and they never mentioned they were pushing a bill to stop everything else. Say goodbye to: dog shows, cat shows, horse shows, riding in parades, racing, petting zoos, therapy animals, etc. Because the bill also stipulates that exotic animal means ANY animal not naturally indigenous to the state of NJ as defined by the NJ Fish & Game dept. HERE is the actual wording of the bill they claimed was only to stop elephants from being in travelling circuses: An Act concerning the use of elephants and other wild or exotic animals in traveling animal acts, designated as Nosey’s Law, and supplementing Title 23 of the Revised Statutes. Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey: 1. a. Notwithstanding any other law, or any rule or regulation adopted pursuant thereto, to the contrary, no person shall use an elephant or other wild or exotic animal in a traveling animal act. b. Any person who violates this section shall be subject to the penalties provided in section 10 of P.L.1973, c.309 (C.23:2A-10), except that the criminal penalties provided in subsection f. of that section shall not apply. c. As used in this section: “Mobile or traveling housing facility” means a vehicle, including a truck, trailer, or railway car, used to transport or house an animal used for performance. “Performance” means any animal act, carnival, circus, display, exhibition, exposition, fair, parade, petting zoo, presentation, public showing, race, ride, trade show, or similar undertaking in which animals perform tricks, give rides, or participate as accompaniments for the entertainment, amusement, or benefit of a live audience. “Traveling animal act” means any performance which requires an animal to be transported to or from the location of the performance in a mobile or traveling housing facility. Always read the fine print! Know exactly what a bill entails, what all the wording means, before letting it get passed!
We just moved in and WE LOVE IT HERE! :-)
