🚨 Healthy Uterus vs. Pyometra 🚨

This side-by-side comparison shows the dramatic difference between a healthy feline uterus and one affected by pyometra — a serious, life-threatening uterine infection most commonly seen in unspayed female cats and dogs.

Pyometra can develop quickly and become an emergency before many owners even realize something is wrong. Symptoms may include:
🐾 Lethargy
🐾 Vomiting
🐾 Increased thirst or urination
🐾 Loss of appetite
🐾 Abdominal swelling
🐾 Vaginal discharge (sometimes absent in “closed” pyometra cases)

The good news? Pyometra is largely preventable through spaying. 💙

Double the fluff, double the bravery 💙🐾

This week’s Brave Patients of the Week are the beautiful Bernese Mountain Dog sisters, Beeatrice and Bentley! These sweet girls came in for their booster vaccines and nail trims and were truly on their VERY best behavior from start to finish. ✨

From wagging tails to happy smiles, they made everyone at Kelly Vet fall in love instantly. We are so proud of these gentle giants for being such brave, patient girls during their visit! 🩺💅

Let’s hear it for Beeatrice and Bentley! 👏🐶

☀️ HOT DAYS = BIG RISKS ☀️

Michigan heat can sneak up on our pets fast — and unlike us, they can’t always tell us when they’re overheating. 🐾💧

Here are a few easy ways to keep your furry besties safe this summer:
✨ Fresh, cool water 24/7
✨ Avoid walks during peak heat (10AM–4PM)
✨ Never leave pets in parked cars
✨ Check pavement before walks
✨ Watch for signs of heatstroke like heavy panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, or bright red gums

If your pet seems overheated:
➡️ Move them to a cool area
➡️ Offer small amounts of water
➡️ Call your vet ASAP

She keeps things lighthearted, brings positivity to every day, and never lets stress affect the care and support she gives others. Amy has fit into our team so naturally that it’s hard to believe it’s only been a year!

Being veterinary assistants means wearing a lot of hats — comforter, advocate, snack-giver, pet whisperer, clean-up crew, emotional support human… sometimes all before lunch. Knowing that our amazing clients, friends, family, and community took the time to celebrate us truly meant the world. 🥹

Today, we remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. ❤️🤍💙

This Memorial Day, all of us at Kelly Vet Clinic pause to reflect with gratitude for the heroes who gave so much so we could enjoy the freedoms we hold dear — including the simple moments spent with the pets and people we love most.
