Dans le refuge privé de Santuhalm il y a environ 600 chiens (2013), a moment (2022) 274 chiens. Le refuge a été fondé en 2000, quand l'ancien refuge de Deva a déménagé dans cette nouvelle location. Au début il y avait 40 chiens, mais leur nombre n'a pas cessé d'augmenter ces derniers 14 années jusqu'à atteindre 600 chiens. Le refuge est pauvre, il n'a pas beaucoup de ressources et aucun financement public, mais c'est un refuge où on ne pratique pas l'euthanasie.
