This is powerful and heartbreaking. I would lean into the emotional contrast between a loved dog at home vs. the dogs surviving in fear on the streets of Puerto Rico 🥺🐾
While many of us are sitting on the couch tonight cuddling our dogs… there are hundreds of dogs across Puerto Rico hiding in bushes, sleeping in corners, running from humans, running from other animals, and simply trying to survive another day 🥺🐾
People often think the “hard part” ends once we rescue them off the streets… but sometimes, that’s when the real battle begins.
Imagine being so failed by humans that even a simple touch feels terrifying.
Imagine shaking when someone looks at you.
Imagine not understanding that love, food, safety, and kindness are finally being offered to you.
These dogs have spent their lives surviving in fear.
Some have stayed curled up in the same corner for days because they do not know what safety feels like.
Even bathing them can be heartbreaking because they truly believe someone is going to hurt them.
And now begins the long process of rehabilitation…
Teaching them that hands are not for hitting.
Teaching them that humans can be gentle.
Teaching them that they no longer have to fight to survive.
This will take time.
This will take patience.
And this will take a village 🧡
We are going to need help rehabilitating these babies so they can finally experience the beautiful life they always deserved.
Please continue supporting rescues, fostering, donating, sharing, and advocating for Puerto Rico’s forgotten dogs 🐾
Because every dog deserves to know what love feels like.
