This female dog wearing a blue collar was hit and rolled over by a vehicle at C5 Gasoline Station, San Isidro, Tagbilaran City today.

She sustained severe injuries, including a serious hip fracture and a fractured leg, along with multiple abrasions. She is now safe and receiving emergency treatment at AnimalZone Veterinary Clinic.

Another successful 𝐅𝐇𝐍𝐎 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐲 at AnimalZone Veterinary Clinic!

Meet Jen Jen, an 8-month-old German Shepherd who had been suffering from lameness and discomfort for about a month due to a chronic hip luxation.

Because the hip had already been luxated for an extended period, simply returning the femoral head into the acetabulum was no longer the best option. Her owner decided to proceed with 𝐅𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐍𝐞𝐜𝐤 𝐎𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐲 (𝐅𝐇𝐍𝐎) to give Jen Jen a chance at a more comfortable and active life.

FHNO involves removing the femoral head and neck, eliminating painful bone-to-bone contact. Over time, the surrounding muscles and soft tissues form a functional “false joint,” allowing many dogs to regain comfortable use of the affected limb. Proper pain management, controlled rehabilitation, and gradual return to activity are important parts of recovery.

A reminder to fur parents: If your pet suddenly becomes lame, refuses to bear weight on a leg, cries when the hip is touched, or develops an unusual gait after a fall, accident, or rough play, have them examined as soon as possible. With a recent hip luxation, early diagnosis may allow the hip to be reduced back into the acetabulum without an FHNO. As time passes, muscle contracture, scar tissue, and joint changes can make successful closed reduction much more difficult.

For Jen Jen, surgery marks the beginning of her road back to comfortable movement. We’re looking forward to seeing her progress through rehabilitation!

𝐁𝐮𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐲’𝐬 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐲 𝐄𝐲𝐞 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲 👁️🐶

Meet Buknoy, our adorable one-eyed patient who came to us with 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐲 𝐄𝐲𝐞—a condition where the tear-producing gland of the third eyelid slips out of its normal position, creating a noticeable red or pink bulge at the corner of the eye.

Because this gland plays an important role in 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘆𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵, removing it is generally avoided whenever possible.

For Buknoy, we performed the 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻 𝗣𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲, carefully repositioning and securing the gland back where it belongs.

From before surgery → post-surgery → completely healed! Buknoy’s eye is now looking great and back to normal. ❤️

Pet owner tip: If you notice a red or pink lump in the corner of your pet’s eye, have it checked early. Avoid repeatedly pushing it back yourself or using human eye drops without veterinary advice.

🚨 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭: 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 “𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝” 𝐁𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐚 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 🚨

Meet Elon, a 3-year-old Shih Tzu who was brought to AnimalZone Veterinary Clinic after suffering from loss of appetite and persistent vomiting for 3 days.

At first glance, these symptoms may seem like simple indigestion—but Elon’s abdominal radiographs told a different story. The X-rays showed a suspicious gas pattern highly suggestive of an intestinal obstruction, a life-threatening condition that requires immediate intervention.

After discussing the findings with the owner, we proceeded with an exploratory laparotomy performed by Dr. Al.

🔍 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘁?

A 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘆 that had not been properly digested became lodged inside Elon’s small intestine, completely blocking the normal passage of food and intestinal contents.

An enterotomy was successfully performed to remove the obstruction, relieving the blockage and giving Elon the best chance for a smooth recovery.

Cases like this remind us that 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐲𝐬, 𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬, 𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐭𝐡. 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐯𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐢𝐟 𝐬𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞 𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐫 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐰𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐲.

An intestinal blockage (intestinal obstruction) is a medical emergency. If left untreated, it can cut off blood supply to the intestines, causing tissue death, perforation, severe infection (septic peritonitis), and even death.

𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀:
🐾 Repeated vomiting
🐾 Loss of appetite
🐾 Lethargy
🐾 Abdominal pain
🐾 Straining or inability to pass stool
🐾 Swollen abdomen
🐾 Dehydration

✅ Avoid giving large pieces of vegetables or fibrous foods.
✅ Cut fruits and vegetables into bite-sized pieces if feeding them as treats.
✅ Introduce new foods gradually and in moderation.
✅ Prevent access to garbage, kitchen scraps, toys, socks, corn cobs, bones, and other objects that may be swallowed.
✅ Feed a balanced diet appropriate for your pet’s age and size.
✅ Supervise dogs that are known to gulp their food instead of chewing.
✅ Seek veterinary attention immediately if vomiting persists, especially when accompanied by loss of appetite.

Remember: Early X-rays and timely surgery can save lives.

Meet Jet, a brave 1-year-old warrior who recently underwent a 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐛 𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 after being diagnosed with 𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐨𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐚 (𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫). While losing a leg is never an easy decision, it was the best chance to remove his source of pain and give him a better quality of life.

The good news? 𝐉𝐞𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥, 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐨𝐧 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐬. Dogs are incredibly resilient, and most adjust surprisingly well after amputation, often returning to happy, active lives.

🐕 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐎𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐨𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐚?
Osteosarcoma is the most common primary bone cancer in dogs. It is an aggressive and painful disease that weakens the bone, making it prone to fractures and causing persistent lameness and swelling. While it is more common in large and giant breeds, it can affect dogs of any size.

⚠️ 𝐒𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐭 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐞:
• Persistent limping that doesn’t improve
• Swelling over a limb or near a joint
• Pain when the affected leg is touched
• Decreased activity or reluctance to play
• Sudden worsening of lameness

Early diagnosis through radiographs (X-rays) and veterinary examination is essential. In many cases, amputation is the most humane option to eliminate severe pain. Additional treatments such as chemotherapy may also be recommended to help slow the spread of the disease.
