Featured Aquatic plant of the day: Echinodorus Marble Queen (often called the Radican Marble Queen Sword) is a stunning, hardy aquatic sword plant known for its striking, variegated green and creamy-white foliage. It is a large, easy-to-grow foreground to midground plant perfect for open aquariums, tall paludariums, or Discus tanks.

Quick Facts & Care

Origin: Cultivar of Echinodorus cordifolius (North and Central America).

Growth Pattern: Rosulate with large, heart-shaped leaves. It naturally grows tall and will frequently emerge above the water line, making it highly suitable for open-top tanks.

Care Level: Easy

Lighting: Low to medium

Temperature: 22°C to 28°C (72°F to 82°F)

CO2 & Substrate: CO2 is optional but beneficial. Because they are heavy root feeders, they require a nutrient-dense substrate or root tabs.

Local Availability & Sourcing

In the Philippines, the Marble Queen Sword is fairly accessible and budget-friendly. You can commonly find it sold as single bulbs or potted plants.

Best Practices for Your TankPlanting: Plant directly into the substrate. Ensure the crown (where the leaves meet the roots) is entirely above the substrate to prevent rot.

Submersion vs. Emersion: Fully submerged leaves will show softer, more mottled marbling. Because of its desire to grow out of the water, pruning tall emersed aerial leaves will encourage it to produce shorter underwater foliage.

Stability: Like most Amazon Swords, they dislike drastic parameter changes. Unstable environments may cause the plant to experience "melt" (where old leaves decay).

Featured aquatic plant of the day: ECHINODORUS Echinodorus (commonly known as the Amazon Sword or Burhead) is a popular aquatic plant that blooms with delicate, three-petaled white flowers. The plant produces these flowers only when grown in its emersed (above-water) form, often rising from open-top aquariums, paludariums, or Wabi-Kusa setups.

Key Characteristics

Flower Structure: Blooms consist of three delicate white (occasionally pink-tinged) petals, three green sepals, and noticeable yellow stamens in the center.

The Flower Stalk: Flowers appear on long, arching stalks that shoot well above the plant's foliage.

Propagation: After the flowers bloom and get pollinated, the stalk will often produce adventitious plantlets (small baby plants). Once these develop their own roots, you can trim and plant them separately.

Tips to Encourage Flowering

To prompt your Echinodorus to grow emersed leaves and flower:

Lighting: Provide moderate to strong lighting to encourage the plant to shoot upward toward the light.

Nutrients: Ensure a nutrient-rich substrate or the use of root tabs, as they are heavy root feeders.

Water Levels: Lower the water level so the leaves can emerge above the surface, or grow them in a dedicated terrestrial/paludarium setup.
