We’ve welcomed a very special girl into Whangarei Cat Rescue… her name is Bean, and she’s expecting! This sweet mama is safe, cozy, and soaking up all the love while she prepares to bring new life into the world 🐱✨

🐾 Kitten Season Is Coming! Are You Ready? 🐾

Spring is just around the corner, and that means kitten season is nearly here 🌼🐱. We've already had a wave of adoption enquiries—but at the moment, we only have three kittens in our care!

Kitten season typically ramps up over the next few weeks, so we’re expecting more tiny paws to arrive soon. In the meantime, we’re working hard behind the scenes—responding to calls, preparing foster homes, and getting ready to welcome new arrivals.

🧺 Getting Ready for Your New Kitten

Thinking about adopting? Here’s how to prepare for your new furry family member:

🏠 Create a safe space: Set up a quiet, cozy area with a bed, litter tray, food and water bowls. Kittens need a calm environment to adjust.

🍽️ Stock up on supplies: Kitten-specific food, litter, toys, scratching posts, and a carrier are essentials.

🧸 Kitten-proof your home: Hide cords, secure windows, and remove small objects they might swallow.

🩺 Book a vet visit: Early health checks and vaccinations are key. We’ll let you know what’s already been done when you adopt.

💞 Be patient and gentle: Kittens are curious but can be shy at first. Give them time to settle and explore at their own pace.

The easiest way to help is to ensure your cats are desexed! There are lots of options for cheap and sometimes free procedures, just ask us to point you in the right direction

We’re always in need of:
Foster carers (especially for mums and litters)
Donations of kitten food, litter, and supplies

Please do your part to help us by desexing your cats, your neighbors cats, your cousins' cats, all the kitty cats!

We have paired up with SPCA New Zealand in a new outreach program so that we can offer desex and microchip vouchers to specific situations 🐈‍⬛

This means if you have cats and haven't been able to afford to desex them, are feeding stray cats, wild cats or barn cats, OR have a workplace/yard cat that needs the snip, we can help you!

There are cages to borrow and transport available for inner city areas.

We're thrilled to announce that The Best Dog Trust and Whangarei Cat Rescue are the next rescue groups to take part in the community-focused initiative 🩵

Outreach Vouchers from SPCA provide access to fully-funded desexing and microchipping services, and are entrusted to different organisations to distribute directly to their communities. We're excited to join forces with these great rescue groups, and know we can make a significant impact in bringing down the rates of breeding in the Northland region.

🐾 McKinnon: The Drama Queen You Didn’t Know You Needed 🖤

After spending far too long in quarantine (her words, not ours), McKinnon is finally ready to grace the world with her presence—and trust us, she’s got a lot to say.

👑 Talkative? Oh honey, she’s got the voice of a Broadway star and the attitude of a reality TV icon. She’ll narrate your life, critique your cooking, and remind you when it’s snack o’clock.

🎉 Playful? Like a toddler on espresso. Toys beware—McKinnon’s got moves, and she’s not afraid to use them. Feather wands, crinkly balls, rogue shoelaces… nothing is safe.

🍣 Food lover? She’s basically a tiny Gordon Ramsay. If it’s edible, she’s interested. If it’s not, she’ll still inspect it. And yes, she will try to steal your sandwich.

🖤 Style icon? That sleek black coat? It’s giving “midnight panther meets velvet runway.” She’s mysterious, mischievous, and 100% magic.

McKinnon is looking for a home that appreciates bold personalities, late-night zoomies, and a cat who thinks she’s the main character—because she is.

🐾✨ Casper & Quill: Off to Conquer New Sofas! ✨🐾

We’ve got some paws-itively wonderful news: Casper and Quill have officially moved out! 🎉 These two fluffballs have found their forever home, and we couldn’t be happier (or more emotional—yes, we cried, don’t judge us). 🥹💕

Their new humans are already smitten, and we’re pretty sure Casper has claimed the comfiest cushion in the house while Quill is plotting world domination from the windowsill. Classic.

That leaves us with four fabulous kittens still in our care—each one a tiny tornado of toe beans, purrs, and personality. 😻 They’re keeping us on our toes (and occasionally stealing our lunch), but we wouldn’t have it any other way. You'll meet McKinnon in the next couple of days, but here is a wee snapshot.

With fewer whiskers around, things will be a little quieter over the next month or two... emphasis on little. We’re still knee-deep in litter trays, snack negotiations, and impromptu zoomies. 🐈💨

So if you’re missing your daily dose of kitten chaos, don’t worry—we’ll keep the updates coming. Expect snuggles, sass, and maybe a few dramatic nap poses. 🛏️📸

🐾 Meet Crush — The Gentle Farm Boy Turned Snugglebug 🐾

Crush may have started life on a farm with his sister Candy, but this little guy is ready for a new chapter filled with love and snuggles. A bit shy by nature, Crush is blossoming more and more each day, showing just how brave and playful he can be when given patience and care.

🎾 His favorite pastimes? Darting after ping pong balls, hunting feathery wand toys, and prior to her getting adopted, play-wrestling with his foster sister Devonport. It’s clear that this timid lad is turning into quite the social butterfly.

🐱 When it comes to cuddles, Crush is learning the joys of chin scratches and warm pats — and yes, he’ll even take Temptation treats from your hand once he gets to know you. He makes the sweetest chirping sounds when excited, especially at wet food o’clock.

✨ Milestone moment: On July 6th, 2025, Crush gave his very first purr. 🥰

💖 And here's the cutest update — Crush is now giving head bunts! A heart-melting sign of trust and affection.

🚨 Casper & Quill – We Need a Miracle🚨

Casper and Quill are 7-month-old bonded tuxedo boys with all the love and life you could hope for. They’re cheeky, cuddly, curious, and so, so sweet. We've promoted them, posted endlessly, taken them to adoption parties, begged friends, shared their photos far and wide. They’re still here.

💔 We’ve tried everything we can think of, and we are running out of ideas. Like, who doesn't like men in a suit? 💔

🎩 Casper is the wild-hearted explorer with a purr like thunder. He races toward life headfirst and always finds a way to make you smile. 🎩 Quill is the gentle soul with big watchful eyes, a quiet purr, and a heart full of devotion. Always trailing his brother, always ready for cuddles.

They deserve everything. What they’ve gotten is silence.

We don’t know what else to do, and short of a miracle they are going to be spending the rest of winter with us instead of with their forever family.
