Whangarei Cat Rescue is a community charity run by volunteers on donated time, funds and food.

We do not have a shelter location but foster in our volunteers homes so our kitties come used to a home environment. Our Adoption Fee is $200

All of our kittens have been:
*Desexed
*Vaccinated
*Microchipped & registered on NZCAR
*De-flead & wormed

We also offer discounts for pairs, teenagers and adults.

🐱 How grateful are we?!

We’re feeling overwhelmed in the best possible way. Today, Masterpet New Zealand donated two pallets of litter — and to our rescue, that’s the kind of kindness that makes you stop in your tracks, breathe deep, and feel genuinely seen by your community.

Litter might seem simple, but for our cats and kittens it’s comfort. It’s stability. It’s one of the first signals that they’re safe now. When a frightened little one arrives after a rough start, stepping into a clean tray can be the moment their tiny shoulders drop, their heartbeat slows, and they realise they’re finally somewhere gentle.

And for our pregnant queens — the brave mums who arrive tired, stressed, and carrying precious lives — clean, reliable litter is part of creating the calm, predictable environment they need before they give birth. It helps them settle, nest, and feel secure enough to welcome their babies into the world with dignity. A peaceful queen means healthier kittens, smoother births, and a softer beginning for the tiny paws she’s about to bring into the world.

Masterpet New Zealand, your generosity doesn’t just fill trays it also fills hearts. It wraps around every cat and kitten that comes into our care, and every foster home offering a safe landing. Thank you for helping us give our cats and kittens the gentleness they deserve.

💛 A Small Act of Kindness Can Change Everything 💛

Our fellow rescuers at Helping Paws in Mangawhai are in real need of volunteers, and this is one of those moments where lending a hand doesn’t just help the cats! There’s something special about showing up for others: it reminds us we’re part of a community, that we can make life a little softer for someone who needs it, and that kindness is still very much alive.

Even an hour makes a difference.
A clean space, a calm environment, a gentle presence — these small things mean the world to the cats and to the people working tirelessly to care for them.

And if you’re not "near" the area, why not turn it into a little adventure?
Pop in to help, then grab a coffee, explore the sights, and enjoy a day out knowing you’ve done something good. Helping others has a way of filling your own cup too.

FREE CAT DESEXING FOR A LIMITED TIME ✂️

These vouchers are for whanau who haven't been able to afford to desex their cats, for stray cats and wild cats.

Cat cages are available to borrow as well.

Double Serving:

🏴‍☠️ Morgan: Still Sailing the Seas in Search of His Forever Crew!

Avast, ye landlubbers! The mighty Morgan has returned from his first adoption voyage… and somehow this tiny pirate has not yet found his forever ship. Shocking, we know. Clearly the seas were full of scallywags who didn’t recognise treasure when it was right in front of them.

But fear not — Morgan is back, fluffier, braver, and even more determined to plunder someone’s heart.

This handsome lad, named after the legendary Captain Morgan rum, is an affectionate little buccaneer who lives for chin rubs, nose bumps, and leaning into his favourite humans like he’s claiming buried treasure. He’s a world‑class biscuit maker, kneading away like he’s preparing ship rations for a crew of twenty.

Morgan is a talkative deckhand, always ready to meow his opinions, demands, and dramatic retellings of battles with the fearsome foe known as “The Dangly Fishing Toy.” He’s getting braver with toys every day — exploring new “uncharted waters” with the confidence of a captain who definitely did not fall off the couch earlier.

He can be a touch shy with new sailors, but give him a little time and space and he’ll soon reveal his true form: a snuggle demon of the high seas, ready to curl up in your arms like a pirate counting his gold.

Yaaarrrrr, hoist the sails and hide yer snacks, Whangārei — a new pirate has come ashore, and he goes by the fearsome name of Morgan. Aye, named after Captain Morgan rum himself, this tiny scallywag is ready to plunder… mostly your heart, but also possibly your lap, your blanket, and any unattended biscuits.

Morgan may be small, but don’t be fooled — he’s got affection enough to sink a ship. This lad LOVES chin rubs, nose bumps, and leaning into his humans like he’s claiming his rightful treasure. If ye stop patting him too soon, he’ll give you the look — the same look a pirate gives when someone steals his rum.

🐾Paw‑some News! 🐾

Almost every single one of our kittens has now found their forever homes — two little sweethearts are still waiting for their perfect match: Moon, our sleek jet‑black beauty, and Peanut, our shy little tabby who likes to burrow.

Sam was the final kitten to be adopted on Sunday, and she curled up on her new family’s shoulder and fell fast asleep, completely content — a perfect reminder of why we try our best to match kittens with their new families.

If you’ve been thinking about adopting, Moon and Peanut would love to meet you. Their forever families are out there somewhere; we are just waiting for you to email us!
