Here in Northland frosts are rare but this morning was an absolute stunner. Frosts are welcomed here on the farm as it helps with our pest management in the spring!! This is our fifth frost this year - compared to last year where we had none

July (in the southern hemisphere) is a time for reflection on the farm. As I watch these videos from December 2025, I can see the stress behind the smile. The storm that came in right as the flowers were due to open was awful. I told myself that I was so dumb for trying to diversify from vegetables, that I had just wasted a lot of money. That girl sitting there had no idea that the flowers would be in full bloom just two weeks later. That the community would love the flower fields just as much as the veggies. That those flowers that all snapped late December were a blessing as they were the ones that were flowering in April. Farming has incredibly tough moments but those are the ones that create better farms. I can happily say the flowers will be back this year but with trellising from the beginning of the season!! If you are having a tough moment in life or on the farm remember sometimes it just means a delayed but stronger bloom

Sometimes farming can be overwhelming stressful and feel like it is all too much. However there are days that it just feels magical and there is no other place I would rather be. I hope the magic comes through in this video!
