We had an awesome time at the National Cat Show hosted by Canterbury All Breeds Cat Club at an excellent venue—the Air Force Museum of New Zealand—so suitable!✈️

Apokalypt Ladybird & I dipped down for 36 hours... and Lady snapped a 2nd, 4th, 8th and 10th in the five rings.

We were also heavily represented by show quality rexes across the board! It was a chance to catch up, make plans for the remainder of the show season, win some prizes and have a chat to some of y'all who've met me only virtually! I couldn't resist taking photos throughout the show so please enjoy.

The trifecta of chaos, the third and oldest litter, are the Selkirks who have been ruling the roost and enabling my inner desire to use a lint roller on the furniture daily.

Stormy Sunday winds here! Thank you all for your patience this week while I took some photos of the beautiful chaos in our home at the moment. We currently have three litters inside, with the oldest kittens now fully weaned. It’s been incredibly fun—and very busy!

First, a big welcome to Penny (her official registered name is Patchefied Jubileena Bing Bing). Penny originally made the big move from Perth to New Zealand in 2024, but she only recently joined us here at Apokalypt. She gave birth to four beautiful, stunning bicolour kittens on May 4th. This is the very first litter sired by our boy, Apokalypt Darcy, so we are super excited to discover that both parents carry the rare cinnamon coat colour gene!

Porcelain also gave birth recently, welcoming four babies on April 29th. This was a repeat mating that surprised us by producing three colourpoint kittens (where the ears, face, and paws are darker than the body). Their true colours have slowly revealed themselves to us over the last three weeks.

With the winter temperatures dropping, we have moved all the mums and kittens under twelve weeks old right next to the fireplace, which has been smouldering since early May (are we getting colder, or just getting older?!).

Unfortunately, mums don’t always see eye-to-eye, so we are running careful rotations and shifts to keep all the families separate, safe, and happy.

Please enjoy browsing through these recent photos, and send me a message right away if one of these little ones is stealing your heart!

-Alex

For those of you who haven't met a Selkirk Rex in person yet, I wanted these photos to give you a proper look at what makes them so unique. The coats and markings of Livi's 6 week old kittens remind us of chocolate, so we've given them delicious names...

A note for those on the waitlist: If you are waiting to reserve your very own kitten from this litter, please feel free to make any preferences known now by sending me a message! They will be ready to come home end of June.

But on the topic of real life, want to feel those famous curls for yourself? We are heading south! We would love to meet you all at the National Cat Show in Christchurch at the end of this month. Whether you’re a long-time fan of the breed or just curious to see what a "sheep cat" looks and feels like, please come by, say hi, and meet Lady and I! 🐾✨

I attended our first show of the season with the Auckland Cat Club Inc., and it was the debut for Miss Apokalypt Ladybird. Lady is a shorthair, heterozygous, chocolate bicolour Selkirk Rex, almost six months old, and was produced by two stunning Brighthills Selkirk Rex parents.

The judges commented that it had been quite a while since Selkirks were seen on the show bench, and I really appreciated the kind words and fondness to see them once again.

To my absolute surprise, Lady took out Supreme Kitten and then Supreme Exhibit. I wasn’t entirely sure how the process worked at that level, as this was my first time achieving such high results since I started breeding, and the very first time one of my own cats has taken out an entire show.

A huge thank you to the hosts for a great event (my new show curtains looked fantastic!) and for the lovely catch ups with everyone.

Lady and I look forward to seeing you all at a few more shows this season!

We are off work this week tending to our health, which means plenty of quality time here at Selkirk Palace.

Livi thinks its pretty great having her humans at her beck and call all day!

Livi's kittens are also finding their characters between their playful spark and perfectly timed 'who me?' or 'how dare you?' pouts, there's never a dull moment...

People always ask "how many cats do you have?" ... and I never really answer! BUT I absolutely love it when there are less kittens, and I have the time to fuss over my adults, edit my website and share with everyone as much information as possible about our breeding programmes.
