Peter and I arrived at Claire Wilson's property in Waipukurau this afternoon to prep arenas and set up at her annual fundraiser, the 'WINTER OLYMPICS' ❄️.

Our contribution of six bags of Synthetic Sand was auctioned with the proceeds going to the Hawke's Bay Rescue Helicopter 🚁⛑️ and other local organizations. It's a significant grass roots event, and we're happy to provide our support this year, alongside many other businesses and long-term sponsors.

We had a terrific day at Taranaki setting up HHH’s new arena groomer, we presented three options and supported them in the process of selecting the ideal groomer for maintaining their arena. Moving forward, implementing their irrigation 💦💧system is next, and they'll be able to self manage arena prep and maintenance of their surface, with the right tools and advice. Not all sand is created equal— and to be honest, there is not one single perfect arena sand. So finding the right blend for your arena starts with TESTING.

If you're looking to top up, let us test your current surface. Then, we can match sands from our database that could work for you. You can also provide samples from quarries in your region so that we can recommend the best sands and ratios to create a blend that will give you stability!

Our professional sand analysis evaluates:
🔹 Particle Size Distribution – Determining how well the sand compacts and drains.
🔹 Shape & Hardness – Round vs. angular grains affect traction and longevity.
🔹 Silt & Clay Content – Too much fine sand can cause dust and compaction issues.

HOY 2025 REFLECTION, Well, we have had time to catch our breath after 8 fantastic days at Defender Horse of the Year.

Arena Surfaces NZ has started reviewing and reporting on the 3405 (yes, that's correct!) moisture data points and penetrometer surface readings from the 8 days we were there.

This year, the grounds officials used this information to assist them in determining the show's management decisions made during the week of competition.

We are incredibly proud to be providing this new level of service to the NZ equestrian industry with respect to fact-based, data-driven decision-making for the welfare of horses, riders, and grounds. This will drive change in our industry over time, with education, knowledge sharing, and the implementation of modern technology for the betterment of event organising committees, showgrounds, and commercial facilities for all disciplines.

We were pleased to sponsor classes and keep the warm ups as prepped as possible for every class’s. We believe everyone from the ring one to ring three deserve to get the same warm ups as the last class.

Congrats on your placings, was exciting to be cheering for our locals at Defender Horse of the Year

HOY done for another year. A great show that was very well run by all involved. We had a couple of good results with Percy getting 2nd in a 1.35m and Spider a ribbon in the Silver Fern. Not quite as good as we’d hoped but happy enough. A lot of people to thank, none more than Chrissy for all that she does to keep everything working. Hana for all her work over the year and so great that Malcolm went so awesome as well. Well done to everyone involved in preparing the grounds and warm up areas. Sadly too much rain made it hard going, but no one’s fault here, can’t stop the rain. The warm up areas were as good as I’ve ever seen them for the duration of the show, as someone who has spent a lot of time preparing arenas at shows over the years, I fully appreciate the work involved to keep them good for the show. Huge thanks to all the volunteers and officials that contribute, without you we have no show. Lastly huge ups to our Australian course builder, Mark Atkins. Amazingly simple courses, where he very much read the ground conditions and talent level to make some great classes. Thanks also to Tackshop.co.nz for supplying us with some lovely gear and Katie .equinesports.therapy for doing a great job working on our horses over the year.
