Another season rolls over, and with it a mix of goodbyes and fresh starts. We’ve farewelled some legends heading off to new farms or finally putting their feet up after years of early mornings in the shed (you’ve well and truly earned it 💪).

At the same time, we’re excited to welcome new & familiar faces stepping into sharemilking, contract roles and farm ownership– big adventures starting right now 🙌

To all of you: all the very best for the season ahead. We’re here whenever you need us… even if it’s just for the BBQ beef at our end-of-year do 😉🔥

New farms, new adventures… same muddy boots 💚

A couple of big weeks done and dusted — cows dried off and teat sealing heifers all ticked off ✅🐄

Big shoutout to our amazing team for getting through the numbers (and the sore fingers 😅) — plenty of laughs along the way too 🙌

No rest just yet… ready for the heifers coming home on the 1st of June and the tail-enders still doing a few more laps in the shed 💪

But when this is your view at the end of the day… 🌄 can’t really complain 😊

Enjoy this lovely long weekend!

🐄 Dry-off season = sore fingers season 😅🖐️
We’re right in the thick of it now, and if your thumbs feel like they’ve done a full gym session… you’re not alone 🙋🏽‍♂️🙋🏼‍♀️
Weeks of drying off and teat sealing = a LOT of repetitive work for those poor fingers! Especially in those colder mornings!

A few of us are starting to feel it, so here are some vet-approved survival tips to keep you going:

💡 Work smarter, not harder
Warm your tubes (cold ones = extra hand strain 🥶). You can put your bucket with product in another bucket of warm water, or use a chilly bin with hot water bottles. DO NOT put the product itself directly in warm water!!
Good grip gloves make a big difference

⏸️ Micro-breaks are magic
Every 10–15 cows:
Shake out hands
Stretch fingers + thumbs
Reset before the next round

🧊 After work recovery
Ice those sore spots
Anti-inflammatory gel (Voltaren crew, we see you 👀)
Decent hand cream — cracked skin makes everything worse

“Grip strength: elite. Feeling in fingers: optional.”

When we first got started, NZ Dairy approached us for an article.

Now, almost three years later, they checked back in to see how things are tracking — what’s changed, what’s worked, and what we’ve learned along the way.

Putaruru Veterinary Services 2023 may be new to South Waikato, but it has quickly become a trusted name among local farming families. Founded in 2023, the practice has grown rapidly while staying true to community, service, and sustainability values.

With a strong family focus and deep local ties, the team continues to support farmers, youth initiatives, and rural life, showing that genuine care extends far beyond the clinic it matters locally.

Due to eye‑watering fuel prices, we’ve made the tough decision to progressively retire our utes and return to a more traditional, environmentally conscious mode of transport…

👉 Old‑fashioned cattle carriages.
While this exciting change allows us to reconnect with our rural roots, it may result in slightly longer travel times (especially uphill… or if our cattle companions need stop for a snack 🐮🌱).

When booking appointments, please allow for:
• Slower acceleration
• Occasional moo-related delays

Thanks for your understanding.

It’s live! Our new website is finally online

After almost 3 years (yes… really 😅), we’re very excited to finally share our brand‑new website with you. Huge thanks to Claire Birks (Bella Creative) for sticking with us and helping turn a very long‑term idea into something we’re genuinely proud of.

Let’s just say it involved a few design drafts, plenty of coffee… and the occasional “discussion” at the dinner table 😉

What you’ll find on the site:
🐄 Our full range of on‑farm and in‑clinic services
🌾 Weekly facial eczema spore counts – easy to find, easy to check
📞 Clear info on how to contact us
👩‍⚕️ A bit more about our team and what we get up to around South Waikato
🍬 And yes… confirmation that good service still includes a hot cuppa and a fully stocked lollie jar

Have a click around, bookmark the spore count page, and let us know what you think!

✨ Remember the 6 little C‑section pups we shared just after Christmas? ✨

Well… they’re growing up fast! 🐶💕
These cheeky bundles of joy have now had their first vaccinations, and they certainly made their presence known — keeping both their dog mum and devoted human mum very busy 😄💉
We’re happy to report that everyone is healthy, happy, and thriving, and mum has done an absolutely incredible job raising her pups 🌟🐾
They’re full of personality, mischief, and cuddles — and are almost ready to head off to their new families 🏡💖
