Technology is coming and we’re here for it! Both Axel and Lore spent the last month doing early empty detection (around 21-30 days post mating) across a couple of our wearable herds. Using the Doppler setting on our new IMV ultrasound scanner we can see tiny heartbeats and blood flow, and our AI‑assisted image analysis helps us locate and assess the corpus luteum (CL) quickly. That combo gives extra confidence early on for confirming pregnancies sooner. 💙💙

We’ve been pairing scanning with:
• Intervention programmes (think CIDRs/Ovsynch) to tighten mating decisions and lift submission rates
• Wearables (heat/rumination/activity) to line up data with scan findings and reduce phantom pregnancies
• Early CL assessment (~21 days) to identify empties sooner, so you can rebreed earlier and keep your calving pattern on track

Besides that, Putāruru vets hosted a NZVA bovine scanning/aging course where Jo and Lizzy got brushed up on their scanning skills, including aging and even sexing calves around 60days!

Bring on scanning season! 😊

The rain made way for sun as we kicked off the festive season with our paddock lunch, and we couldn’t think of a better way to start than sharing great food and great company. 🎄

🔥 50kg of lamb, beef, and pork had been sizzling away all week, and it was worth every minute of preparation. Thank you to everyone who joined us today – and for the ones that didn’t, maybe next year ? 😅

A huge thank you for all your ongoing support – we truly appreciate it!

A whole basket of wriggly, waggy-tailed pups dropped into Lore’s consult room for their vax, worming, and health checks — and completely stole the show last week! Now they’re all set for their new families! 💕

With just 8 Fridays ‘til Christmas 🎄 , it’s a good time to check your pet’s vaccination status. If they’re heading to the kennels, they’ll need to be up to date! 🐾 ✅

A couple weeks ago Axel had a rare and exciting find during autumn herd scanning — triplets detected in one of the cows! 🎉

Triplet pregnancies in cattle are extremely rare, occurring in less than 0.01% of cases — that’s about 1 in 10,000!

The head is one of the most reliable anatomical landmarks for identifying and ageing the foetus, especially during early-mid gestation. In rare cases like triplets, identifying three distinct heads is the most definitive way to confirm multiple foetuses. The head is easier to distinguish than limbs or body segments, especially when foetuses are tightly packed 🐮
